Research and consulting topics have migrated toward student behavior and strategic planning over the past several years, particularly in the areas of student success and direction setting. Direct numerous University research projects on such issues as retention, workload, climate, salaries, student satisfaction, and engagement, and other topics of interest to decisionmaking.

Interim Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, September 2006 – Present

Responsible for managing overall enrollment efforts, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Corrections Education Program, Registrar, and Transfer Central. Developed recruitment and marketing strategies for attracting class of Fall 2007 as well as for increasing future reputation and visibility of the University for future years. Introduced use of data for recruitment tracking and reallocation of resources to increase recruitment activities. Oversee efforts to more fully utilize communications software to improve turn-a-round and quality of contact with potential students. Leading changes in admissions processing and operations to reduce errors. Working with financial aid to increase financial aid packaging and service. Attempting to improve concept of service across the division.

Executive Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning, Institutional Research, and Effectiveness, Office of the President, July 2001 – Present

Led university efforts to develop and implement an overall strategy to establish a new niche in Indiana’s higher educational landscape. Designed and involved in implementation of the University plan to motivate almost 500 faculty and 900 administrators and staff to work toward a new level of prominence in Indiana and the Midwest. Work to ensure that departmental, alumni, external stakeholder, and University Foundation goals are aligned with plan. Led effort to secure $3 million grant to fund initiatives related to the strategy. Responsible for developing performance indicators and accountability measures to gauge institutional progress in fulfilling strategic goals. Serve as a senior advisor to the President and act as his representative on various projects related to personnel, governance, board relations, community engagement, economic development, and external partnerships. Work with executive team to identify and secure federal, state, and private funding for university projects and partnerships to enhance economic development. Work with budget office to align budget priorities with institutional mission. Speak on behalf of the President in numerous settings.

Headed university efforts to research and resolve issues of importance to the institution, including retention, faculty workload, enrollment, climate, gender and racial salary equity, and salary compression. Served as co-leader of a team charged with applying learning communities to address retention at Indiana State University. Served on a leadership team that merged the University’s self-study with its strategic planning efforts. Worked collaboratively with faculty and other campus groups to develop and implement policies on issues fundamental to campus culture such as a comprehensive review of academic programs to enhance university mission and ways to integrate institutional research, assessment, reporting, and strategic planning. Served as faculty consultant on various academic program development and review committees. Responsible for gathering and analyzing university data regarding students, programs, faculty and staff. Managed studies on student retention, graduation, achievement, and post-graduation success. Oversaw design, application, and analysis of numerous student surveys at American University. Surveys were used to determine student needs in various programs as well as university-wide and provide information for program reviews and development.

Responsible for determining recruitment markets and strategy for the College as well as for oversight of travel plans for five counselors. Developed and implemented matriculation agreement between Bay Area private universities and colleges and local community colleges.
