Pittsburgh Plate Glass CompanyTeaching SpecialtiesObject Oriented Programming: Java programming is a current area of interest and activity. I have taught courses in basic Java, gui interfaces, and enterprise java. I am particularly interested in using Java in distributed, real-time systems.
Real-Time Computer Systems: This has been central to my teaching, laboratory, and research activities for most of my professional career.
Computer Communication Systems & Protocols: This has been an area of particular emphasis during the past ten years. I designed and developed a laboratory to support design of both hardware and software communications systems. It was supported by NSF among others.
Computer Architecture/Organization: I have periodically taught courses in this area throughout my academic career.
Digital Hardware / Computer Interfacing Design: I developed and maintained a broad capability digital design facility which supported computer assisted design, building, and testing of logic, MSI, and program logic devices. This laboratory experienced many extensive evolutions.
Microprocessor Systems: I have worked with microprocessors from Intel (and Zilog) 4004 to present pentium chips, from Motorola 6800 to 68000, and a spectrum of support devices. The evolving laboratory was supported by NSF among others.
Control Systems: I have taught several courses in linear and digital control systems. A laboratory was developed with NSF funding.
Operating Systems: I have a reasonable background in operating systems. I have worked with UNIX, Windows/Windows95/98/NT, and have a growing exposure to Linux - plan to have to on my home system soon.
Computer Engineering Courses: I have taught most of the central computer engineering/ computer science courses specified in both CSAB and ABET computer engineering requirements.
Electrical Engineering Courses: I began my academic career teaching a spectrum of undergraduate electrical engineering courses including circuits, electromagnetics, systems, electronics, and control. I continue to maintain interest in these areas.
