As part of a Rapid Application Development project I wrote 5000 lines of PL/SQL code in 6 weeks that integrated an external system to an Oracle Projects custom application. During the production support phase, I occupied my time with Discoverer reports and Workflow customizations.

Skills developed: Oracle Applications 11i (Projects and Purchasing), Discoverer, and Workflow.

McQuay International – Plymouth, MN (3 month contract extended to 14 months)

I was part of the conversion team at McQuay where we migrated the Oracle Applications systems from release 10.7 directly to R12. I was responsible for the General Ledger and Receivables data conversions during the initial financials migration. I also developed generic data mapping utilities that were used for the conversions and interface programs. During the Manufacturing conversions, I upgraded custom reports and forms to work in the R12 environment. I also created new Service module BI Publisher reports.

Skills developed: Oracle Applications R12 (GL, Receivables, Manufacturing, and Service modules), BI Publisher, additional UNIX shell programming and PL/SQL programming experience.

Carlson Marketing – Plymouth, MN (3 month contract extended to 14 months)

I developed Oracle back-end applications for the Amtrak and AT&T loyalty systems that Carlson maintained. One of my major projects was a real-time XML based interface between the Amtrak ticketing website and the Amtrak Loyalty website allowing members to redeem points for train tickets. My work included everything from design to development to documentation and training.

Skills developed: Oracle XML DB. Additional design, UNIX shell programming, PL/SQL programming, and database tuning experience.

US Postal Service Data Center – Eagan, MN (4 and 21 month contracts)

I modified Forms and Reports to implement new features in the USPS national TACS application. The TACS application tracks time and attendance in real-time for the 800,000 postal employees. I also provided training and supervision to Postal programmers. One of my major projects was to consolidate the 1 terabyte of data from 23 regional databases down to 9 regional databases. Another of my projects was the development of a data warehouse with XML reporting interfaces.

Skills developed: XML. Supervisory experience. PL/SQL, Forms 6i, and Reports experience.

Seagate Technologies – Edina, MN (5 and 7 month contracts)

I developed custom applications and Oracle Forms for Seagate’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) department. I created approximately 15 forms conforming to the Oracle Applications 10.7 standards and integrated them into Seagate’s Oracle Apps Manufacturing/Financials system.

Skills developed: Learned the Oracle Applications 10.7 Forms standards, experience with Oracle Applications, additional experience with PL/SQL and UNIX Korn shell programming.

Andersen Windows Corporation – Bayport, MN (6 and 3 month contracts)

I helped to convert the WindowCare customer service and ordering application from an Oracle character mode server based system to a GUI client/server system. Later, we web-enabled the Oracle Forms for implementation in a 3-tier Intranet architecture.

Skills developed: Experience with Forms 6, apps servers, and design issues in a 3-tier environment.

Elmwood Solutions – St Paul, MN August 1997 - May 1999

I developed and supported Oracle based Information Systems for a client that provides incentive programs to the customers and employees of Fortune 500 companies. Some of the major projects were for Southwestern Bell Wireless Communications, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Bell Atlantic. The typical life cycle of my work on a project included data modeling, database creation, customer data validation and population tools (ETL), development of Oracle Forms for operators, Reports for customer mailings, administration Reports for business analysis, and system tuning.

Skills developed: Oracle Forms, Reports, PL/SQL, ETL, Windows 95/NT, UNIX, appreciation of client/server performance issues, appreciation for the benefits of good design.

Software Applications Engineer

Siemens Energy & Automation – Brooklyn Pk, MN September 1992 - July 1997

I worked as an Electrical Engineer developing and delivering Energy Management Systems software to electric utility companies. As the team leader for the development and maintenance of the base Area Generation and Control applications my responsibilities included the identification of enhancements and the definition of interfaces to other systems. As a developer, my responsibilities included maintaining the base functionality, providing user and programmer documentation, and implementing new features.

I was also the lead programmer for delivering the AGC function to two Spanish utilities, the Spanish national power pool, and the Swiss Rail Road. I designed and delivered software solutions to meet the customers' specific needs. In addition, I provided instruction and consultation to the Spanish power pool programmers as they created their own custom application.

Skills developed: customer relations skills, team leadership, training customers and programmers, experience with large real-time applications (over 1 million lines of code), appreciation of the end user’s needs and desires, Oracle Pro C, UNIX, shell programming, FORTRAN, Pascal.
