Research Experience
Graduate Research: University of Wyoming, geophysics, 2007: Using Reflection Seismology to Investigate the Structure of the Water Column. My thesis concerns the oceanic water column and how temperature and density vary as a function of depth. Using seismic data I am examining large-scale oceanic finestructure; in particular I am looking at the physics behind ocean water mixing in turbulent regions and its expression in seismic reflection images.
Undergraduate Research: Young Scholar, philosophy, summer 2006: Quantum Mechanics: Physical Interpretations and Philosophical Consequences. Ten weeks of research in philosophy resulting in an original philosophy paper. I examined different interpretations of quantum mechanics and made a philosophical argument for why a Bohmian interpretation was the most philosophically plausible.
Undergraduate Research: Denison University Research Foundation Scholar, computational astrophysics, summer 2005: Modeling Star Formation: 3-D Visualizations of Gaseous and Dusty Clouds. Ten week research project aimed to produce three dimensional models of star-forming clouds. I first generated temperature and density models of gaseous and dusty star-forming clouds. With the models I tested software packages and created realistic 3-D images and ‘fly-through’ movies useful for seeing changes around structures in the model.
Undergraduate Research: Anderson Scholar, computational astrophysics, summer 2004: Effect of Gas on Temperature and Density in 3-D Star-Forming Clouds. Ten weeks of research investigating the role of gas in star forming clouds. I wrote computer programs that calculated how the gaseous components of star-forming clouds affect the clouds temperature and density locally and globally.
