$400MM series of venture capital funds (1994, 1999, 2001 and 2006 vintages) focused on Series B/C investments in healthcare and information technology companies in the Midwest and Southeast; hired to bring institutional VC experience to the debut fund; rose to General Partner in Fund IV.

Portfolio Management
Sourced new venture capital investments through personal networks and led them through due diligence, negotiation of terms and growth/exit phases; served on over a dozen Boards (typically chairing committees); participated in 3 IPOs (1998, 2000 and 2010) as lead partner; and provided active, on-going assistance to other partners as a second chair on 9 additional deals.
Developed lion s share of funds investments sourced 21 out of 82 deals closed through 2009, accounting for $76MM in aggregate cost basis, spanning both info-tech and healthcare.
Generated high VC-level rates of return led 20 deals yielding an aggregate 79% IRR on a marked-to-market basis, including 3 deals with IRR s of 100%+ (2 of which have been exited).
Drove strong capital appreciation led deals with current value of $119MM (1.6x cost) on a MTM basis, which are anticipated to grow to $158MM (2.2x cost) on a forecast-upon-exit basis.
Scored top-ranking results led 3 of the Funds top 10 deals (and 5 of top 20) in terms of both dollars of capital gain and rate of return (on marked-to-market and forecast-upon-exit bases).
Organizational Development
Applied a professional human capital management approach to developing the Funds staff, at times comprising CFO, Controller, Director, Principal, Associate, Analyst, Intern and staff positions; extensively mentored junior professionals in a business that operates under the apprentice model.
Recruited, trained and integrated new venture professionals attracted two experienced MBA graduates to River Cities, including one from Cornell s prestigious Johnson School.
Assembled high performance Boards identified and convinced C-level executives to join multiple portfolio company Boards, bringing their relevant expertise and experience to bear.
Systematized compensation and review process established consistent salary levels and bonus targets according to job title, and instituted a comprehensive written review process.
Investment Strategy
Guided the overall investment strategy of the funds with regard to info-tech deals; served as process evangelist to develop a commonly-used analytical and reporting framework on all deals.
Spearheaded shift into Software-as-a-Service early champion of investments in hosted software companies in early 2000s, with the result that River Cities became a recognized thought leader in the space after 12 deals, publishing a widely referenced white paper.
Created currently-used standard reporting and analysis systems and tools applied consistent, standardized approach to evaluating returns and documenting performance.
Operations
Acted as de facto COO for the funds, overseeing much of the day-to-day operations, including IT.
Builtdetailed operating budgets and long-range fund performance models instituted monthly cash flow budgeting to optimize the timing of capital calls and use of lines of credit.
Coordinated all annual meetings created compelling content, supervised meeting logistics, selected speakers (portfolio CEOs and industry analysts) and was a lead speaker.
Produced the Annual and Quarterly Reports Editor-in-Chief role for key LP communication.
Marketing
& Fundraising
Managed the online component of the Funds marketing program; supported the overall fundraising effort and made an individual contribution in the form of attracting/retaining significant LP dollars.
Launched the Funds online presence bought web domain name, personally coded the first site and maintained fresh content; established pioneering, professional-grade VC Twitter site.
