Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (P.I. Elizabeth Peters).
Member of large team analyzing multiple nationally representative datasets in order to
understand dynamics of men s fertility decisions, particularly the transition to early
fatherhood.
2003-2005 Research Assistant, Welfare Reform, Family Structure, and Child Well-Being Project
Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (P.I.s Rachel Dunifon and Elizabeth Peters)
Used the Survey of Income and Program Participation data to conduct analyses of the impacts
of welfare reform on family structure and parenting behaviors.
2002-2003 Assistant, Child Care Programs of Excellence Project
Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (P.I. Elizabeth Peters)
Provided advice and assistance with the design and implementation of a qualitative evaluation
of a pilot project in Upstate NY that aimed to improve program quality and consumer
information about quality by implementing a stars rating system for local early childhood
education programs. Tasks included training student interviewers, conducting interviews,
assisting in design of interview guides and focus group protocol, advising on logistical aspects
and implementation of project.
2000-2003 Predoctoral Fellow, Cornell Employment and Family Careers Institute
Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. (P.I. Phyllis Moen)
Worked on project to design, conduct and analyze qualitative interviews with dual-earner
couples about their work-family experiences during early parenthood. Conducted quantitative
analyses and learned programming. Participated in weekly research practicum that included
formal and informal peer review of papers, attending guest lectures on methodological topics
of interest, inviting and organizing visiting lecturers, assisting with research tasks such as
assigning occupational coding to survey data and acting as pilot participant in surveys.
1999 Consultant, The Children s Museum and the Boston 2:00-6:00 Initiative
Boston, MA.
Conducted informal needs assessment for the Mayor s initiative on after-school programming.
Gathered data through a small survey, interviews with local leaders, and discussion groups
with program staff about the quality and quantity of educational programming in Boston s
after-school programs. Presented report on findings to planning committee.
1997-1999 Project Coordinator / Research Administrator, National Institute on Out-of-School Time
Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, Wellesley, MA.
Under supervision of senior staff: researched and wrote reports for after-school program staff
and policy makers; presented at local and national conferences; helped write narrative and
organized extensive appendix for annual report to national foundation; provided project
coordination to the MOST Initiative; supervised student workers; assisted with proposal
writing; designed and produced newsletters; provided daily office administration; developed
and maintained web pages, databases and listservs.
