2010 current Site Based Specialist - Literacy: Chinook Middle School
Chinook has an extremely diverse population w/ at least 20 languages, 55% multi-lingual, 75% free & reduced, 48 to 52% meeting standard in Reading. 2009 designated chronically underperforming by USDE which led me to apply for this position.
Coach 8 teachers in Balanced Literacy structures, Readers Workshop approach, and Reading Intervention methodology.
Train 6 of 8 LA teachers & para-educators to use Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessments to inform leveled, small group reading instruction.
Train para-educators to administer the Words Their Way inventory and teach the lessons indicated by results.
Train whole staff in regarding non-fiction writing strategies for content area classes and consultations for using leveled texts for content instruction.
Facilitate District writing, revision and implementation for CCS based Literacy Frameworks.
