Flight Test Center of Excellence provides training on flight test of aircraft and avionics systems. Two short courses for Canadian Forces have been run to date. FTCE works in conjunction with the UK Empire Test Pilot School. Director of Training and instructor running simulator and in-flight exercises as well teaching portions of ground school theory.

Providing technical expertise on rotary wing aircraft incidents and accidents. Cases have involved Bell 206 and 407, Eurocopter AS350, Robinson R-22and R-44, EC-13, Sikorsky S-76 as well as piloting aspects of helicopters and fixed wing airplanes.

Aeroserve Technologies, Ottawa, Canada

Founder of Aeroserve Technologies, manufacturers of Airtabs, a device to reduce aerodynamic drag on vehicles. Currently vice-president for product development and marketing. To date, the device has saved 1 million gallons of fuel.

Provide marketing assistance to Marinvent Corporation, a Montreal based aerospace firm that develops hardware and software. Currently managing the Airfoil Performance Monitor (a device to show stall margin on contaminated airfoils), Deep Space Hunter, (software to assist in sensor fusion) and Reticule Tracking (software to improve situational awareness for gimbal-based sensors).

Book Publisher / Writer

Writer and editor to produce helicopter related books – two volumes of Ray Prouty’s works and my own book (Cyclic and Collective). Edit and prepare these books for publication. Write regular technical column for Vertical Magazine.

Helicopter Seminars (through Eagle Eye Solutions LLC)

Seminars (1 day to 1 week) on advanced helicopter theory and practice. Provided seminars to Airborne Law Enforcement Agencies, Helicopter Association International, Canadian military and Transport Canada.

Director of Certification, Aerosimulators Limited (Belgium and USA)

Responsible for obtaining flight data and preparing reports for certification of Aerosimulators’ line of low-cost helicopter simulators. Interface with certification authorities in Spain, UK and USA. Provided first approval of Microsoft Flight Simulator by European authorities. Wrote numerous proposals for marketing capabilities of company.

August 2005 – December 2005

Director of Flight Operations – Agusta Helicopters, Philadelphia, PA

Head-hunted to be Chief Test Pilot / Director of Flight Operations for Agusta’s expansion of their US operations. Review of staffing levels and started set up of administrative and operational procedures. Left when unable to renew flight physical.

January 2005 - June 2005

Emergency Medical Service Pilot – Mercy Air Base 14, Mojave

Flew Bell 412 helicopter in day and night VFR conditions for short-notice medical evacuation of injured. Area of responsibility included high desert, mountains, high temperature, limited performance missions. Shift worked enabled me to perform other jobs, such as helicopter simulation, writing, and expert witness for legal cases. Left because of job offered at Agusta Aerospace.

National Test Pilot School – Branch Chief -Helicopter Program

Ground and flight Instructor on Helicopter engineering Flight test techniques. Developed lessons and taught classroom theory and practice of testing of helicopters for civil and military certification. Wrote exercise briefs for student exercises, marked reports and presentations. Set up exercises on variable stability simulator, wrote manuals on flight testing. Taught numerous students on short and professional level courses. Conducted training on civil certification procedures for new European aviation company. Consultant on avionics integration project. Flew Bell 0H-58C, UH-1N, Sikorsky S-55 and Hughes 500 helicopters, various fixed wing aircraft.

Engineering Test Pilot, Transport Canada Aircraft Certification Branch

Conducted engineering flight tests on new designs (Bell 427, 407, 430) and modifications for airworthiness approval of Canadian registered helicopters. Reviewed flight manuals, supplements, test plans and results to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Certified new Flight Management System for Canadian manufacturer for fixed wing and helicopters. Chairman of Transport Canada Navigation Database Integrity working group. Report of this committee widely quoted on the Bluecoat Digest for summarizing problem. Advised on helicopter accident investigation and development of new navigation systems (Differential GPS) Flew Department aircraft- Bell 206, Beech King Air. Treasurer of national trade union for government pilots, active in pay negotiations.

Marketing consultant for major European Helicopter Mfg. Director of UK Company providing flight test consulting services and aerodynamic drag–reducing devices.

Wrote responses for UK Government contracts for Eastern European helicopter. Technical advisor on legal cases involving helicopter accidents. Flight testing new digital fuel control for engine manufacturer. Checked out on Polish W-3A series by Polish factory, including instructors rating. Worked as computer consultant, performing troubleshooting and advice. Line Pilot for local operator.

April 1989 - May 1992

Principal Tutor Rotary Wind - International Test Pilots School, Cranfield England

Set up all aspects of complex Rotary wing test pilot course. Wrote stability and control and performance manuals. Taught courses on report writing, qualitative evaluation test techniques and practical aspects of avionics systems test and evaluations. Set up, ran and troubleshot a complex fixed wing variable stability flight simulator.

July 1985 - March 1989

Contractor Helicopter Instructor - United States Naval Test Pilot School, Patuxent River, Maryland

Flew OH-58A, CH-46, UH-60A and HH-65A. Instructed students and instructors in flight testing. Briefed/debriefed and marked student reports/presentations. Instructed on variable stability helicopter. Jointly responsible for the integration of the HH-65 into flight syllabus, including developing SOP's, checklists, etc. Performed avionics demonstrations in fixed wing flying laboratory. Active in Boy Scouts and local church.

September 1984 - June 1985

Senior Test Pilot, Bell Helicopter Canada, Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Lead Canadian pilot on Model 400 program. Instructed on Bell 206 series at factory school. Conducted first flights on new production helicopters. Flight testing on the second prototype Model 400. Liaison with engineering staff related to Model 400.
