TRINITY MOTHER FRANCIS HOSPITAL, Tyler, TX; 2010 - Present

TRANSPORTER, INTEGRATED SERVICES

Deliver comprehensive non-clinical administrative support, by moving

patients to and from treatments, shifting critical equipment to where it's

needed and collecting regional direct care center medical supplies for

appropriate disposition. Also provide assistance to understaffed floors and

supply vital information to RN's.

TEXAS FOREST SERVICE, Jacksonville/Lufkin, TX; 1978 - 2010

STATE LAND COORDINATOR (2008-2010)

Presided over the Texas State Forests and Government Land Office (GLO)

property, as well as addressing the land needs of other State agencies.

Stepped forward to meet with adjoining landowners to explain land

management objectives and gain buy-in. Managed 150 staff in 23 district

offices over 54 counties.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Driving force in devising land management strategies that maximized

revenue, conservation, recreation and sustainability. Used many approaches

to conserve natural resources while protecting landowner interests.

* Stopped continual encroachments and resolved conflicts by resurveying

and marking corners.

* Initiated a monthly consumer protection program on a Farm & Ranch TV

show. Overcame landowner issues and became a trusted conservation resource

by producing a program on timber sales strategies.

* Built reputation as focused, decisive Incident Commander (IC) during

numerous emergencies, such as forest fires, floods, ice storms, hurricanes,

tornadoes, a Space Shuttle disaster and homeland security incidents.

Instrumental in saving human & animal lives while staunchly protecting

property & infrastructure.

* North East Texas Ice Storm: Established a joint command with the Texas

Department of Public Safety and State of Texas, Department of Emergency

Management and then opened & cleared roads, ensured local propane dealers

remained open to deliver to homes without heat, purchased additional

propane from Houston and lifted road restrictions to guarantee delivery.

* The Houston Flood: As IC for the 19-Hospital Texas Medical Center,

expertly supported an exhausted Medical Center Director; led a 21-person

team and relevant organizations to bring aid to 6,000 patients and 8,000

employees with limited or no supplies of food, water and power. Enlisted

the Red Cross to bring in meal vans and the Southern Baptist Men to provide

18,000 meals a day. Restored utilities in 12 hours and full operations in 2

days. Managed $1 billion dollar budget.

CHIEF REGIONAL FORESTER (2003 - 2008)

Spearheaded all emergency response in 54 East Texas counties, directing a

staff from 150 to 400 across 23 offices. Often enlisted outside resources

in emergencies; staff could then increase to 1000's of individuals. Oversaw

land management, tree planting/harvesting and responses to natural

disasters/invasive diseases.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Adjusted Agency to changing times by implementing procedures that

flexibly moved staff and equipment to areas of need, instead of tying

resources to fixed locations where they were not utilized.

* Promoted cooperation and "playing to their strengths" among staff,

transforming District into the most productive and innovative in Agency.

Expanded/optimized operations, educational & outreach programs and land

management initiatives. Ensured staff was available 7 days a week to handle

public/contractor needs during key timeframes (tree planting). Had

virtually no turnover during tenure.

* Hurricane Rita: As Incident Commander, moved quickly to establish

Points of Distribution to supply people with food & water and coordinated

crews to open the roads & electrical right of ways. Also ensured rapid

completion of FEMA reimbursement paperwork.

* Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster: As Field Operation Chief and

Arbitrator, put team in position for massive search on 195-mile path 22

minutes after the Shuttle crash. Coordinated Federal & State agencies in

search effort involving 27,000 people, the first incident ever where

Federal Agencies worked under a State Agency's leadership. Set standard for

working together cooperatively; FEMA later adopted this Incident Command

System (ICS) for all emergencies (National Incident Management System -

NIMS).

ASSISTANT CHIEF REGIONAL FORESTER (2002 - 2003)

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Principal support for the Chief Regional Forester in shepherding

operations and staff.

* Thoroughly trained City/County leaders on emergency response as well

as rapid FEMA reimbursement.

* Worked diligently to create goodwill between all internal and external

Departments and the Agency.

DEPUTY CHIEF REGIONAL FORESTER (2000-2002)

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Led and mentored team charged with both forest management and

emergency response; successfully cultivated a positive work environment and

promoted a spirit of teamwork & idea-sharing.

* Took initiative to develop harmonious relationships with timber

companies, contractors and other agencies.

DISTRICT FORESTER (1980-2000)

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

* Ran highly productive operation governing largest District in State (6

counties) and built empowered staff.

* Planted the most trees in Agency history, through "hot" planting

(planting early) and securing (as a trusted resource, through a handshake)

6 million seedlings/year from International Paper. Successful in following

through on commitment to use all of the seedlings.

* Established and grew largest Forest landowner Association in the

State.
