Ordering all of the ink for the plant

Doing drawdowns for upcoming customer approved jobs

Formulating all colors for the ink department

I excelled at being an in plant due to the good working relationships I made working with the customer, both with operators presside and management.

I worked as an in plant technician for Siegwerk Ink at Alcan Packaging in Newark.

My duties included:

Toning on press when needed

Making ink for the schedule for each press

Rematching colors when formula did not pass xrite

I have always believed in being a team player. In July of 2008, Seigwerk approached the four inplants about adjusting our schedules due to the amount of overtime they were paying. I volunteered to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that they could put the other three ink technicians on a Monday thru Friday shift, 8 hours apiece. This helped save the company the money they were hoping for.

Make ink for the presses

Tone any inks offshade at press.

Working for Flint was my first experience working with solvent inks. It was also my first extensive experience being an in plant and being the face of an ink company at the customer. My duties were not as important as they are now but it was a great learning experience.

I was hired by Willamette Industries to be a Combination Man. This was my first job in the ink industry.

My duties included:

Weighing up inks on a scale to a precise formula

Pouring inks into 5 gallon kits or 55 gallon drums

Making 3000 lb batches of coating white.

Unloading trucks by using a forklift.

Learning to QC batches

After 2 and a half years, i moved ffrom the cerritos plant to the san leandro plant to learn how to better QC colors and to get more expertise in using workoff for fresh batches. I also gained more knowledge in formulating colors to specific anilox rolls. I gained a very good color eye at this point.
