constructing and maintaining enterprise logical and physical data models. Additional
duties involved offering data administration support for functional project teams.

During my four years as an Information Systems Lecturer my duties included: lecturing to
groups of up to 250 people using original material prepared and delivered with information
technology, mentoring and tutoring in both internal and extramural modes, curriculum
design and preparation, and professional research.
My main research and teaching interests were in the areas of: data modeling, database
systems, CASE technology, enterprise-wide modeling and data integration. My teaching
responsibilities ranged from: high level overview of the information systems discipline,
in-depth study of systems analysis and design, courses concerning data modeling
techniques, process modeling techniques, database concepts and end-user computing.
In addition to teaching and research activities I considered it important to foster
significant exposure within the business community. I achieved this in two ways:
- by developing and maintaining a number of systems development contracts for small and
mid-size organizations.
- by consulting in data architecture at strategic and tactical levels with organizations
such as: Inland Revenue Department of New Zealand, WestPac Banking Corporation.

I secured several small system development contracts and with a small team, I developed
systems from initial contact with a client to roll out and maintenance. These included:
- administration systems designed to track and mange project status and budgets
- time costing system to track time and materials expenses against projects
- automated, self-paced teaching tool to facilitate distance learning of database
concepts
- user-definable end use database for the New Zealand energy market that permitted ad-hoc
querying of aggregated data by non-technical executives. These systems used Relational
Database Management Systems and Fourth Generation Languages with GUI interfaces. Contracts
were delivered by forming teams of up to four partners or subcontractors.
