Experience

Research Experience

September 1996

to present, pursuing a Masters degree at Memorial

University, My research aim is to increase the therapeutic index

of cytotoxics by delivering them to tumor cells via the LDL

pathway. We make extensive use of HPLC, one and two step chemical

synthesis, 13C and 1H NMR, DSC, IR, MSMS, and CD as well as tissue

culture and many other techniques/tools during this project.

May 1994

-September 1994, under the supervision of Dr. K.

Tirunellai I developed a simultaneous HPLC assay procedure for

clofazimine and dapsone using Benzoic acid as an internal

standard. Plasma samples were purified by a solid phase extraction

procedure before being subject to HPLC.

May 1993

-September 1993, Collected data regarding the physical

properties of complex carbohydrates, this was corrobatory data

used by a PhD student who was concurrently working in the

laboratory of Dr. Hoover MUN department of biochemistry.

July 1997

to Present, Employed as a full time staff pharmacist for

Shoppers Drug Mart Mount Pearl (Owner Tom Lynch).

October 1996

to June 1997, Employed as a relief pharmacist in the

St. John's and Mount Pearl area. Pharmacies I have worked at

included Prescription Shoppe (Owner: Karen Francis), Parkdale

Pharmacy (Owner: Doug Butt), Shoppers Drug Mart Lemarchant Road

(Owner: Derrick Hierlihy), Shoppers Drug Mart Goulds (Owner: Scott

Way).

April 1996

-October 1996, Employed as a staff pharmacist at

Parkdale Pharmacy in St. John's, this was a full time position

from july to september at which time I began my masters degree

full time and practiced pharmacy part time.

Hobbies/Interests

Computers, putting them together, taking them apart, surfing the

internet and writing web pages etc.

Raising and Breeding tropical fish, although not as active as I

once was I presently have 2 fish tanks set up... a 50 gallon

community tank and a 33 gallon cichlid. In the past I have had

much success breeding cichlids atleast of the convict, jack dempsy

variety...someday I hope to make the transition to marine tanks

Chess, I have always enjoyed a good game of chess and use to enjoy

being vice president of the high school chess club, I have played

in a number of tournaments in years gone by but presently only

find the time for a game in between semesters and such.

Photography, I currently use a canon 35mm SLR(eos elan IIE). My

major photographic interests are nature/wildlife and astronomy
