DISSERTATION
Title: Personal Social Media Usage: Drivers and Developments (Working Title)
This research is focused on the effects of personal social media usage in a work-based
environment, specifically examining how usage influences user task performance and emotional
states. This research hopes to show that the ubiquity of social media in users daily lives can have
a deleterious effect on their performance both directly and through emotional constructs such as
technostress. This aims to be beneficial to the academic community by addressing gaps in the
literature concerning social media as a negative influence, determining technology characteristics
that drive usage and analysis of social media usage at the individual level. The end goal is to be
able to provide practice with recommendations on what level of personal social media usage
should be allowed to gain the maximum productivity from employees.
