SUMMARY

I hope to become a sportswriter or work in the media relations

office of a professional sports team.

I am currently 21 years old, and an avid sports fan. I enjoy

all sports, but soccer and baseball are my all-time loves. I

have spent my entire life around sports, as my father was a

sportswriter for the first 20 years of my life. Now, he is the

media relations director for the [6]Tennessee Secondary School

Athletic Association. I have spent the past six semesters

writing at [7]The Daily Tar Heel, where I currently am an

Assistant Sports Editor.

EDUCATION

I will graduate in May, 1999

with a Bachelor of Arts from the School

of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North

Responsibilities include page layout, assigning stories,

reading other writers' work, while maintaining

responsibilities of covering events and writing stories.

helping younger writers develop their skills.

-- Covered the University of North Carolina football team.

Assignments included page layout, putting together graphics,

writing headlines and photo cutlines and editing other

- August 1996. Worked in the front office of the AAA farm

team of the Chicago White Sox. Learned about all facets of the

team's operations, including media relations, ticket sales and

stadium operations.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Family: My father, Larry Taft, is the Media Relations director for the

Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association. My mother,

Charlotte Craig, is a nurse at the Gaston County Health

Department. My stepfather, Ron Craig, is a mechanic for USAirways.

My younger brother, Jared Taft, plays soccer at Gaston Christian

School.

Hobbies: I enjoy sports, Sony Playstation and Frisbee golf.

Skills

I am familiar with all types of word processing programs on both PCs

and Macintoshes. I have knowledge of HTML format.
