Environmental Science *** Instructor at . Instructed 37 students in this introductory course in Environmental Science. I designed the labs, lectures, exams, and events for the course. This included six lab sessions which are not normally part of the course, as well as five hours of lecture per week. I also graded all exams and gave final grades. I enjoyed this opporunity to have my own class, and I hope to have the chance again.
Biology 101 Lab Instructor. Instructor of the lab portion of Biology 101 at .
Classes had approximately 24 students, and were two hours long per
week, for 11 weeks. The course is an introductory course for
non-Biology majors. I have taught two quarters of this lab. Primary

Biology 204 Lab Instructor. Instructor of the lab portion of Biology 204 at .
I have instructed three Biology 204 lab courses from Fall, 2006 to
Spring, 2007. The course is an introduction to Evolution and Ecology
for Biology and Environmental Sciences majors. Included subject matter
was phylogenies, genetic drift, microscopy, experimental design,
analysis, and predator-prey interactions. Primary instructors: Drs.
David Hooper and Kim Kolb Ayre.
Biology 206 Lab Instructor. Instructor of the lab portion of Biology 206 at .
The class has 25 students, and was 3 hours per week for 10 weeks. The
course is an introduction to Organismal Biology for Biology and
Environmental Sciences majors.
Biology 101 Instructor. Substitute instructor for Biology 101 at .
I taught two classes of about 100 students each for the Ecology and
Species Interactions parts of the course when Georgianne Connell was
beginning her maternity leave. I designed the lectures around her exam
questions, took questions, and lectured for two hours each day.
The Planet Science Editor. My job as science editor was to edit
every draft for scientific accuracy and formatting, along with general
writing. I also provided authors with further information to aid their
pieces. I also spoke to the class about scientific writing, and working

- Designed and taught the invertebrate zzoology dissections for fifth
graders from the Anacortes School District. Included were dissections
of a sea star and clam.
Seventh and Tenth Grade Biology Guest Speaker. Taught marine biology to four classes at Adna Middle/High School in Mrs. Asia Freeman's
class. Included SCUBA diving to bring organisms into the classroom for
a touch-tank, and also present a Powerpoint about local marine
organisms.
Teaching Assistantships
Biology 201 Lab - Introduction to Genetics and Biochemistry at
WWU. Assisted in lab course, where I answered questions from students,
assisted in lab set-up, and helped instructor. I also presented one lab
individually, giving background information, as well as lab
instructions to students, and answered questions afterwards. Primary

Biology 456 - Algae at WWU. Assisted for entire course during
the spring of 2003 and 2005, including field and lab work. I set-up
labs, answered student questions regarding the labs and the class work,
helped students with their individual projects, and drove the
university van to field trip locations. Primary Instructor: 360-***-**** or 650-7400, and Karen Pelletreau
Biology 460 - Invertebrate Biology at WWU. Assisted with set-up
of lab portion of class, and the lab practical. Set up invertebrate
biology lab with an assortment of local inverts from selected phyla for
that week. I was also responsible to clean-up and tear down of each lab
afterwards. Primary instructor: Dr. Ben Miner.
Freshman Social Science at THS. Assisted teacher in high school social science course. Primary instructor: Ms. Chance (has since married and moved).

Environmental Science 440 - Wetlands Ecology at WWU. Grade lab
notebooks and quizes, proctor exams, prepare for weekly lab sessions,
keep lab space well maintained, and arrange necessary equiptment for

Environmental Science 502 - Experimental Design at WWU. Assisted in computer lab work, preparing assignments, and tutoring students. Instructor: Dr. Brian Bingham.
