Executive Director, BWOPA/TILE-Black Women Organized for Political Action / The Training
Institute for Leadership Enrichment 1999 Present. Day-to-day manager of two sister
organizations that advocate for legislation that benefit the African-American community
and African-American women, and trains African-American women and youth to become leaders
in the public and private sectors and in their communities. Responsibilities include
providing local, state and federal legislative updates to board and membership on priority
issues. Lead Representative of state healthcare advocacy coalition (Women in Action Lobby
Day / CA Black Women s Policy Network). Provide operational support to 75 board members
from various organizations throughout state. Coordinate public relations, marketing, and
event planning strategy and organizational structure for the statewide organization and
the Oakland/Berkeley chapter. Lead annual fundraising programs: Annual Legislative
Learning Day in Sacramento, Young Leaders to Washington DC, Barbara Jordan Leadership
Luncheon, and the Biennial State Leadership Conference.

Public Affairs Director, Healthy Oakland, Inc. 02/0502/08
Healthy Oakland seeks to address health disparities and violence in the African-American
community by providing free weekly medical services and offering health screenings and
testing at parks, churches, schools, and other venues. As Public Affairs Director, I was
responsible for engaging and educating Oakland citizens, decision makers, media and
potential funding sources on the organization s schedule of activities and key
announcements. Provided program leadership, execution and grant evaluation for Network for
a Healthy California African American 5 a Day Campaign. Organized nutrition educational
intervention event series in west Oakland for low-income women. Recruited target
population for quarterly consumer empowerment sessions. Lead program strategist: for the
Urban Male Health Center Initiative, Health Power Series and Spotlight on neighborhood
liquor stores. Wrote press materials, e-news briefs and hosted press briefings.

During two political seasons, I was responsible for managing, training and directing
Democratic Party campaign field operations staff in the East Bay including the Field
Director, Volunteer Coordinator, Organizers and Operations Manager
. Trained and managed
over 500 volunteers for the Get out the Vote field plan through building and maintaining
relationships with community-based organizations, high schools, and colleges for volunteer
recruitment. Created and managed field outreach plan that reached and educated 90,000
registered voters throughout the East Bay on state candidates and issues. Established a
youth leadership community service program that engaged up to 50 high school and college
students throughout the campaign season. Hosted press conferences with candidates, elected
officials, and key community leaders to discuss state initiatives and legislation.
