PUBLIC RELATIONS
Revitalized the American Red Cross brand and image throughout northeast Iowa. Resulted in expanded fund raising, strategic, and recruiting opportunities that directly contributed to the overwhelming operational success of the chapter during the Iowa floods and tornadoes.
Designed and facilitated the public relations program for a private, non-profit naval aircraft museum to support activities and events, and to attract local, regional, and national media attention. These initiatives created excellent public education and branding opportunities, the taping of major network programs and motion pictures on site, increased tourism revenues, and an enhanced national exposure.
MANAGEMENT
Created and implemented a planned giving fund raising strategy for an American Red Cross chapter. A spectacular growth in planned giving dollars increased over a five year period from a base of $40,000 to more than $500,000. Developed and supervised the public relations department for private liberal arts college.
Designed and managed exhibits, tours, and educational and technical/mechanical activities for the USS Hornet Museum to attract visitors and grow donations. This effort significantly increased visitor attendance, partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations, and strengthened donor relationships.
COACHING/MOTIVATING/TEAM BUILDING/LEADING
Directed the American Red Cross chapter through several major disasters and many local training events. The chapter was named Non Profit of the Year in 2006 for the establishment of fundraising efforts and vivid recognition for service to the community and region.
Built exceptional sales staff for private businesses through team building, training, and group or individual activities. Effectively increased revenues, improved staff communications, and created sales strategies that were combined to improve employee morale and production.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Restored the image and brand of the American Red Cross in the local chapter`s jurisdiction following a failed capital fundraising campaign and major national organizational public relations issues. Resulted in the restoration of public trust, private and inter-agency relationships, enhanced and expanded volunteerism, improved employee morale, and greater monetary contributions.
Solved national, state and local agency issues regarding the acquisition, placement and oversight of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier within many jurisdictions. The ship was awarded to a private non-profit corporation following a successful effort to meet rigid criteria over a 2-1/2 year time frame.
MEDIA/COMMUNICATIONS/EVENTS
Former Writer for Oakland Tribune and San Francisco Chronicle. Chief Field Correspondent for U.S. Navy in Southeast Asia. Created several radio series and hosted three-hour program. Voice-over talent, on-air announcing and public television host.
Developed and managed several major events for local American Red Cross chapter to increase fund raising. Direct increase in operating revenues annually through events such as a major golf tournament, car show, Christmas variety extravaganza, stand-up comedy review, big-band dances, volunteer recognition awards, and other activities.
BUDGETING
Redesigned, expanded, and implemented a new budget to grow the public relations department of a private, liberal-arts college. Resulted in expansion of the department and its services that included new hires, new equipment acquisition, and more effective marketing and public relations materials that gave the college greater regional and national brand recognition.
Created and implemented a new financial reporting and budget system for American Red Cross chapter. This system improved understanding and communication of important budget issues, the budgeting process, reporting, and operational management. Chapter operated under budget for six consecutive years.
