EXPERIENCE:
Sixteen years experience with private industry (mostly
with AT&T) . Involved in life-cycle analysis, development, and support
of large-scale batch and OLTP systems running in MVS mainframe and
UNIX operating environments. Responsible for production and test
database support for a variety of MVS database products including
TOTAL, SUPRA, IMS/DB, and RAMIS/FOCUS in addition to providing systems
administration support in the UNIX environment for HP and SUN/OS.
Currently working in a production ORACLE database support group. Prior
to entering the data processing field taught History, English, and
Geography at the High School. My experience in the data processing
field includes:
AT & T :
ORACLE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR 4/97 - present Provide 7 x 24 database
support for production and test environments in a primary and backup
role for ORACLE 7 applications running in an HP-UX 10.20 environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: design, creation,
implementation, and maintenance of production and test databases,
storage allocation and monitoring, performance monitoring, and
software upgrades. A recent production project involved migration of
an application using ORACLE 7.1.6 from HP-UX 10.01 to HP-UX 10.20. The
current phase is to convert the database to ORACLE 7.3.3.4 Tuning of
ORACLE's shared-pool parameters along with the UNIX upgrade resulted
in a 10% increase in idle time on the machine. The current DBA
position works in a team environment of 15 associate DBA's. Each
coordinates database enhancements between development, system test and
production groups.
UNIX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
6/96 - 4/97 Provided 7 x 24 system
administration production support in a primary and backup role for a
variety of Unix machines including SUN SPARC 10 & 20, HP K210, and NCR
3300. Responsibilities included but not limited to: ID, login, and
security administration, application and system alarm creation and
monitoring via Unix Fault Management Application(UFMA), application
site consolidation from 5 to 1, file maintenance. Gained knowledge in
the following areas: NFS, NIS, SYBASE Gateway Server, BMC PATROL.
C/C++ DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMER
2/96 - 6/96Development programmer
responsible for the designing, coding and testing of an online order
entry/tracking application. All work was performed using C/C++ and
OPENWINDOWS SCREEN TOOLKIT in a UNIX environment running on a SUNOS
4.1.4 operating environment.
SYSTEMS ANALYST
4/95 - 2/96 Primary systems analyst for an online
order entry application. This application is a UNIX based toolset
designed to improve ordering and provisioning of data communication
services. This client-server application runs on SUN servers, using
TCP/IP to communicate with MVS mainframe applications. The toolset
provides GUI and character-based presentations for end users.
Implemented online order entry system for international user
community. Changed order entry from a paper(e-mail) system to a screen
driven online entry system. Reduced time to input order to mainframe
database by three days. Increased system use by 35%. Created
documentation for and trained the new users of the system. PRODUCTION
MANAGEMENT DIVISION SUPPORT 9/91 - 4/95 Responsible for performance
and cost monitoring and improvements for Division billing
applications. Gained experience in the use of several monitoring
utilities (STROBE,CICS MONITOR) for use in trouble resolution.
Developed several SAS procedures to gather performance data from the
SMF data collection records. Used to track monthly abend trends.
Totals are kept on a monthly basis, downloaded to EXCEL spread sheets
and distributed to Division and District managers. Lead person in
migrating the Production Ordering applications from Private DASD
storage to a System Managed Storage(SMS) environment. Headed a team of
nine people and developed the procedures to move 11 billing
applications to SMS.
Technical leader of a Division Quality Initiative Team (QIT) which
reduced division cost overruns by $1,000,000. Performed as the
technical advisor to the Cost Reduction Process Team. This role
involved developing the procedures and processes for reducing run time
and DASD costs for the Private Line Billing Division.
SERVICE ORDER TRACKING SYSTEM
(SOTS) DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR 6/87 - 9/91
Lead person on a team to evaluate and recommend a Relational database
for a major provisioning application. Evaluated SUPRA, DB2, ORACLE,
INFORMIX and eventually chose SUPRA. In 1987 I was responsible for
developing the first relational database application in the Oakton, VA
data center. Converted the existing application to SUPRA and
rewrote, tested and implemented the application's catastrophic
recovery. Redesigned a Record Retention system from IMS/ADF to SUPRA's
Relational Data Manager using the full relational capabilities of the
product (database view calls) . In 1988 lead person in the creation of
a Logical Data Model (LDM) for the provisioning application. Using the
physical layouts the applicaiton was reengineered back to the logical
model. Used the CASE tool EXCELERATOR for full documentation and the
regeneration of the physical model. Lead person in developing the
business case for the project which would use DB2,UNIX, and TCP/IP.
Attended DB2 application and development classes along with DB2
database classes for an effort to move an a ad-hoc reports system to
DB2 running on a UNIX system.
DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
6/84 - 6/87 Database administrator for several
TOTAL database applications along with an IMS/ADF application and an
ad-hoc report retrieval application using RAMIS/FOCUS database.
Responsible for all database files -- creation, maintenance, storage
allocation and performance improvements. IMS database backup support
