Summary A senior information system technical person with broad and in
depth experience in MVS and UNIX environments, including
system/application architecture, application design, database
administration, TUXEDO administration, performance & tuning, product
evaluation, leading a technical team, and setting a technical
direction for a large scale application.
Technical Skills
Hardware : NCR 5100, NCR 3550, NCR3450, NCR4380, IBM RS6000, IBM 9000,
3090-600E
Software : UNIX, C, Korn Shell, TUXEDO, MQ (IBM's Messaging and
Queuing Series), ORACLE, Universal DB2 (UDB), DB2 on MVS, TERADATA,
IMS, SQL, COBOL, PL/1, MVS/ESA/XA, TSO/ISPF
Professional Experience:
AT&T
1979 - Present
Principal Technical Staff Member - Team Leader
for ICV (Integrated
Customer View) Transaction Server and ACFBI Data Server
3/95
- Present
- Responsible for all technical aspect of the application. ICV is a
client/server application. It utilizes both MVS and UNIX resources.
Transaction Server and ACFBI server both are on UNIX. Transaction
Server houses the customer/product cross-reference information. The
customer data is stored in the ORACLE Parallel System with about 400
GB in size. ACFBI Server houses all bundled billing
arrangement/invoice/statement information. Transaction Server
interfaces with many other client applications via TUXEDO and MQ.
TUXEDO is used to interface with the UNIX client applications. MQ is
used to interface with the MVS client applications. TUXEDO is also the
transaction manager, which directs the user request messages within
Transaction Server and ACFBI server. The technical challenges of this
application are supporting a large database, high transaction volume,
and stringent response time. The average online transaction volume is
more than three millions per day. The average transaction response
time is under 750 milliseconds. The challenge in the human resource
area is finding the qualified people to work on the various
technologies utilized by the application. My functions are to design
and architect a highly flexible and efficient system. The system must
be able to provide a near 7x24 availability, easy to maintain, having
the excellent quality. The deliverables must be on- time, on-target,
and on-budget. My functions also include interfacing with a diverse
groups, such as the business requirement, data base administration,
system test, production support, capacity planning, etc. To be the
team leader I am responsible for hiring and managing about 20
technical people to implement the application. Since I have strong
technical background I also develop performance tools to measure the
message response time and overall system performance, to analyze the
performance reports, to identify the problem areas, and to resolve the
problems.

Senior Specialist - Chief Architect
for CSD Application
8/94
- 3/95
- Provided the architecture direction for the re-engineering effort of
the system. The application was mainly a MVS system using DB2 as the
DBMS and CICS as the TP monitor. The re-engineering effort was to
convert the system to be a GUI front end and a UNIX/ORACLE back end
application. My functions were to determine the system software
required supporting the effort. Many vendor software such as
PowerBuilder, screen painters were evaluated. A prototype system was
developed to evaluate the two transaction managers TUXEDO and TOP END.
The evaluation report was presented to CCS SOE committee and AT&T
foundation architecture committee and made TOP END a standard
transaction manager for UNIX in AT&T foundation architecture.
Senior Specialist - DBA/Performance Specialist
for CPP Application
8/91
- 8/94
- Provided DBA and technical support to a large DB2 system, CPP (ATT
Calling Card Provisioning Process). CPP was one of the largest DB2
applications in the world. CPP processes about 1 million online
transactions and various batch feeds each day. The DB2 data resided on
150 3390-mod3 packs. The largest DB2 table contained more than 200
million rows. My functions included logical and physical design of DB2
tables for supporting the new releases of the application; technical
support to the developers in the MVS, DB2, IMS, LINCS, LU6.2 areas;
production support to identify the performance and contention
problems; evaluation and implementation of new software packages to
improve the system performance; collection of MVS and DB2 statistics
for overall CPP performance and individual transaction, batch job
performance; producing performance measurement reports and charts to
identify the areas with high system resource usage and working as a
team with the developers to fix the problems; acting as a technical
consultant to the junior members of the DBA group.
Senior Specialist - DBA/Performance Specialist
for CIS Application
6/90
- 8/91
- Provided DBA and technical support to a DB2 application, CIS. This
system used client/server architecture. The application was written in
C language on UNIX. The transactions entered on UNIX went through
LU6.2 and invoked CICS transactions to execute the remote DB2/SQL
statements. My functions included working as a team member on the
logical/physical data base design, working with developers on SQL
calls, working with Mesa data center on establishing a new DB2
environment for the system, coordinating the effort of moving software
from Orlando test system to Mesa data center, etc. I was also
responsible on studying and investigating the open gateway vendor
products. The purpose was to find the best architecture that would
provide the connectivity among multiple platforms. The vendor products
which had been investigated included Oracle's SQL * Connect to DB2,
Sybase's Net Gatewy, Open Gateway to DB2, AT&T's Lincs, etc.

application. The functions included physical data base design, data
base sizing, database/table/user/view/index creation, working with
developers on system design, providing technical support in CICS and
DB2 areas, providing assistance on SQL statement coding and program
debugging.
- Provided DBA and technical support to a Teradata application. The
functions include logical and physical data base design, table sizing,
database/table/user/view/index creation, setting up security and
authorization schemes, working with developers on system design,
assisting programmers on coding SQL statements, setting up procedures

system in the world at that time and was the first DB2 application in
AT&T. The system consisted of 50 DB2 tables and the data resided on
112 3380-E packs. My functions included logical and physical data base
design, database sizing and placement, setting up standards and naming
convention for DB2 data bases/tables, setting up standards for DB2
programs, working with developers on system design, program design,
monitoring data base/program performance and tuning, maintaining data
base structure and integrity by performing DB2 maintenance utilities,
providing application support and problem resolutions.

various DB2 tools, such as DB2 compression packages (BMC's Data
Packer/DB2, Shrink/DB2, Compact/DB2), DBA tools (Platinum RC product
line and Data Base Analyzer), operation tools (Copy Plus, Reorg Plus,
Omegamon), report writer (Easytrieve/DB2, Platinum's Report Facility),
etc.
- Provided data base design and DB2 consultation to several AT&T
