• Facilitated $3.2 million budget process with staff, using consensus-based decision models.

• Supervised and evaluated one-third of 50 certificated staff.

• Customized classroom schedules for 950 students, using “School Within a School” model.

• Supervised special education inclusion model and pullout services for 150 students.

• Supported special educational program for students with severe behavior disorders.

• Organized wrap-around services for students facing serious challenges related to behavior, mental

illness, drug/alcohol abuse, abuse & neglect, poverty, homelessness, and disabilities.

Blue Heron Middle School Maritime Program. Assisted development of this community-based

longboat program for middle school students in collaboration with the Northwest Maritime Center. Led

curriculum development, evaluation, staff development, grants, risk management and film production.

4-H Network News. Created youth-run online news service, featuring rural Jefferson County youth

reporters on location in Seattle, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Video interviews included

Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Randy Owen, and elected officials at state and national levels. International

4-H Big Quil Enterprises. Helped create youth oyster business through Bill & Melinda Gates

Foundation Connecting Schools & Communities grant. The Northwest Area Foundation selected this

Brinnon/Quilcene project for its $100,000 “Great Strides Award.” The cash award is given nationally to

only four communities each year in recognition of innovative strides to reduce poverty in communities.

4-H Stewardship Program. Established countywide teen workforce development program in

collaboration with U.S. Forest Service to hire youth crews to conduct stewardship projects in the Olympic National Forest. http://4hstewardship.blogspot.com.

Powerful Schools. Chaired Community School Committee for Powerful Schools, a four-school coalition in south end of Seattle School District committed to providing educational opportunities to children and adults, regardless of ability to pay. The Powerful Schools organization received the 1992 Washington State Golden Apple Award in recognition of innovative contributions to education.

Washington Middle School. Led teacher team as science subject matter specialist, utilizing hands-on,

experiential approaches. Accomplishments included establishment of the “Main Stem Forest” tree farm, nursery and garden on the school site.

Renton School District. Wrote and published science and social studies curriculum for district 6th grade classrooms. Projects utilized integration of technology, desktop publishing, scanners, video cameras, LC displays, weather station, digital cameras, etc.
