Experience:
05/96
-present Configure and tune multi-volume PROGRESS
(V6-V8 character client/server mode) databases for internationally
deployed manufacturing application. This project involved very
large-scale reverse engineering working with many team members, and
intense SCO-UNIX environment setup and database tuning to address
client-server performance issues. Role as DBA included supervising and
coordinating efforts of many teams of developers concurrently.
1993
-04/96 Designed software for court management and criminal justice
systems in the State of Texas. These systems with up to 300 users,
have highly complex data relations, strict security requirements, and
interface with D.P.S. via telecommunication protocols. Lead the
company in detailed research of current RDBMS market and converting
legacy system to PROGRESS. The conversion included setting up
relational tables and procedures and training associates in
relational, O-O, and RAD technology. My role was team leader in all
database related activity and acting DBA for all projects.
1990
-1993 Software Engineering Research Center @NASA/JSC Installed,
designed, trained users, and administered databases using Oracle, Pick
and Informix. These databases served such tasks as managing the
Research Center's published articles and papers, maintaining a
repository of reusable program source code. I created budgets and
project plans and also authored technical papers for publication and
gave technical presentations to NASA community.
1987
-1990Software Engineering Research Center @NASA/JSC Team leader
using the Clear-Lake Life Cycle Model to prototype repository-based
Operating System for distributed real-time environments such as Space
Station and Lunar Outpost. The model is based on Object-Oriented and
EA/RA methodology however many of the components were built using
relational engines with C front ends.
1988
Private Contract (Georgetown Exploration Inc) Converted database
from Informix on DEC to DBill on Intel-PC. Project included retrieving
existing financial data from DEC Informix, setting up new tables and
procedures in DBIII, repopulating the new database with the original
data and generating reports into CSV files to import into Lotus
spreadsheet.
1987
Private Contract (Commercial Mortgage Network) Designed entire
system for real estate application using Pick (for the main host) and
AREV (for remote nodes). The database matched prospective clients with
lending institutions nationwide. Responsibilities included the entire
software design, hardware procurement and training the employees on
the resultant system.
1985
-1987Software Engineering Research Center @NASA/JSC Built
Motorola instructional computer for Hickok Electrical Instrument
Company based on Motorola 68K based CPU. Designed machine language
course and wrote user's guide to accompany the computer
