Summary
With eleven years experience in the computer field, I have a strong programming
background that is enhanced with hardware and system administration experience. I have
worked independently to produce software products as well as functioned as a team leader
to coordinate complex projects. Much of my knowledge has been gained by being a self-
motivated learner and avid reader.
Professional Experience
Contractor
- September 1996 to PresentMarch 2000
- March 2001, Inforonics, Littleton, MA
Most recently I was member of a team working on an e-commerce project for Inforonics, a
web development firm. The project involved Object Oriented Perl, and Javascript. The Perl
DBI/DBD modules were used to access an Oracle backend with Apache Web Server and ModPerl.
I was telecommuting approximately 20 hours a week for this contract.
March 1999
- February 2000, Brighton Agency, Clayton, MO
Working at Brighton, an advertising agency, I developed an intranet application to
computerize company timesheets, expense reports, purchase orders and client estimates.
This project utilized Perl CGI, Javascript, and Sybase on a Linux server. Sybase was
accessed using the Perl DBI/DBD modules. The database was later switched to MySQL. I
worked on this project while living in St.Louis and for three months, while telecommuting
from Massachusetts.
November 1998
- February 1999, Hewlett-Packard Corporation, Palo Alto, CA
Using Perl, shell and PL/SQL I was a member of a team which was reengineering the Hewlett-
Packard corporate billing program. The Perl DBI/DBD interface was used to access Oracle as
well as SQL Plus. The first part of the project emphasized backend programming, to get the
database structure and functions in place. However in January 1999 I moved on to the web
interface design and coding using the Oracle Web Application Server with PL/SQL as well as
Perl.
February 1997
- November 1998, Hewlett-Packard Corporation, Cupertino, CA
Key member of team responsible for replacement of the Hewlett-Packard defect tracking
system. Responsibilities include HTML, Perl (with OO extensions), Java, Javascript
programming, HP/UX 10.10 system administration and some Oracle Database
design/installation. Using Perl CGI, HTML, and Perl DBI/DBD to access Oracle, I have
customized and enhanced Rational Software's WebTracker product to Hewlett-Packard's
requirements and to interface with other Hewlett-Packard internal systems. Also, I
assisted in a project to integrate Java into this software package.
September 1996
- January 1997, Smith and Nephew, Andover, MA
Worked on several projects for to help them automate system administration and reporting
tasks. Scripts written in Perl, Bourne and C shell to report Internet usage, product
access, automated backup and email aliasing. Also, performed troubleshooting of sendmail
configuration. Also, I installed and configured Legato as their enterprise backup system.
