Nature of Community: Oceanside resort community with mile-long boardwalk along the beach. Diverse population, with middle-middle to upper-middle class retirees and senior citizens, several Middle Eastern and Asian business owners, and a significant GLBTQA segment. Businesses include typical tourist souvenir and novelty shops, upscale boutiques, four-star hotels, motels, banks, fast food and gourmet restaurants, bars, liquor stores, arcades, and small amusement park. One public elementary school with 600 students grades K-6. Offshore Fourth of July fireworks display draws additional 35-50,000. Spring and fall -shoulder seasons- (Mar. to May, Sept. to Dec.) feature conventions, weekend festivals, sidewalk sales, parades, bandstand concerts, annual Thanksgiving weekend Christmas tree lighting and carole sing (5,000 attendees), and the annual Community Christmas Parade. Managed high school work-study Cadet program for 300 students in cooperation with the D.C. Board of Education.
