May 2010 – Present Senior SQL Server DBA

NAV Canada

As the Senior SQL Server DBA working on IOP project using SQL Server 2008. IOP is a high profile project consolidated different individual applications into one centralized system to support the mandate of NAV Canada. Analyzed detailed business rule, created centralized database model to implement the business rule, designed database structure such as table, view, index by adhering Microsoft best practice to improve performance. Created structured stored procedures to act as business layer for the application, handled all the data processing and data retrieval. Developed Data Migration Strategy and Data Mapping document to convert all the legacy data into the new centralized database, created SSIS package to import and cleanse all the data coming from legacy database system (Including Sybase, Dbase, SQL Server 2000, Excel), converted database structure, data and code from Sybase ASE 12 to SQL Server 2008 by utilizing SQL Server Migration Assistant and manual code change. Worked closely with developers to support their request and worked together to solve any database related issues and performance issues. Configured N+1 Multiple Instance SQL Server Cluster on Windows Server 2008 to support high availability. Consolidated the database storages to centralized new generation NetApp SAN, configured Data Domain Duplication to allow fastest data recovery. Utilized PowerShell to automate the management of the SQL Server. Used Team Foundation Server as the source control software to store all the source codes of the project. Documented database structure and data dictionary. Provided resource coordination and regular status reports to project lead.

As the Prime SQL Server DBA working on ICMS Release 4 using SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 R2. ICMS is a high profile web application integrated several COTS products together to support Canada Refugee Claim. Analyzed database requirements, broke down the requirements into modules and entities, created the data model for the new release of ICMS using SQL Server 2005, wrote a lot of key module stored procedures and functions to improve performance and functionality, incorporated mission critical business rules to stored procedure as it's fast, reliable and seamless for migration, developed series of T-SQL scripts for data migration and daily maintenance. Developed the backup and restore strategy, used Log Explorer to monitor the server for real time issues. Installed multiple instances of the clustering of SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 R2. Configured and Optimized SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 R2 by adhering to the industry best practice, configured the monitoring job and nightly maintenance job for the server. Designed high availability database solution by using combination of clustering, log shipping, disk mirroring and replication. In charge of migration from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008, developed migration strategy and ensured production environment performance. Implemented the Source Control solution by utilizing Team Foundation Server to make it easier for team members to work on same project. In charge of migrating legacy data into SQL Server database, created data migration strategy and data mapping document as well as data migration routine. As the Senior SQL Server DBA working on 1-800-Ocanada project, analyzing, designing, programming, testing and optimization of enhancements of 1-800-Ocanada database system. It’s a high profile large-scale information system, thousands of calls coming in to help citizens using government service. Front end using Powerbuilder 10 to create user interface and manage work-flow, back end using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to store rational data and create stored procedure to ensure data integrity. In charge of database analysis and using PowerDesigner to design the data model to support business rule integrity with SQL Server 2005. Wrote stored procedures/functions/views using T-SQL to support business rule implementation, create T-SQL scripts for daily operation in SQL Server 2005. Designed SSIS packages using SSIS to transfer legacy data into the relational SQL database. In charge of the configuration and optimization of SQL Server 2005, developed script to automatically send alert to DBAs when exception occurs, optimized the database server settings SAN disk configuration to get best performance possible. Developed in house intranet applications using ASP.Net and SQL Server 2005. This is a 3-tier application. I’m responsible for changing the database structure based on the new requirement with the minimal impact to the existing application, creating Database Backup and Recovery plan, maintaining the user login privilege, creating hundreds of Stored Procedures as well as Triggers to help the developer to accomplish their development need. Designed DTS Packages to accomplish data transfer task. I’m also in charge of the correction of the invalid data that generated by the user. The system is a bilingual system, using Object-Oriented Methodology, integrated with other Mainframe application.
