Experience
January 1973 to January 1977
USAF Sumter, SC
Air Traffic Controller
Although my last duty station was Sumter, I served in three different duty locations during my service. It was during this period that I received initial indoctrination, training and experience in the Air Traffic Control profession. It was the place where I learned to love aviation.
May 2009 to July 2012
Raytheon Merrimack, NH
Certified Instructor
During this period, I returned to my previous duty station in Merrimack, NH to provide instruction in an FAA Radar Lab.
May 2007 to May 2009
Midwest ATC Lawrence, MA
Air Traffic Controller
Retired from the FAA, I worked as an Air Traffic Controller in a Tower which had been contracted by the FAA to the city of Lawrence. Aside from operational duties, I sometimes fielded inquiries from the city manager regarding airport operations.
September 1973 to November 1987
FAA Philadelphia, PA
Air Traffic Controller
My initial duty station with the FAA, Philadelphia was rated by the organization as among the busiest and most complex airport environments in the complicated Northeastern portion of the USA. I advanced through training as first a Tower Operator and then to the full performance level as a radar qualified Air Traffic Controller. I was successful enough in both disciplines to receive waiver from requirements for "time in grade" to proceed to the journeyman status.
December 1986 to August 1988
FAA Oklahoma City, OK
Radar Training Facility Instructor
The FAA maintains a Training "University" in Oklahoma. During this period, I was promoted to an instructor in their screening facility in the Radar Training Lab. It was my task to both provide instruction in the fundamentals of the discipline and to help screen the program for individuals with low/poor chance of successful completion of training. During my tenure I was proficient enough to be tabbed with the additional responsibility of training new arriving instuctors to the position.
September 1988 to October 1989
FAA Charleston, WV
Supervisory Air Traffic Controller
During this period I served as a supervisor to a team of Air Traffic Controllers providing air traffic control services in both a Tower and Radar environment. I was tasked with being a liaison to the community in regard to both user concerns and noise abatement.
December 1989 to September 1991
FAA Boston, MA
Supervisor Air Traffic Controller
I performed as a Tower Supervisor to air traffic controllers at Logan Airport. In addition to my safety responsibilities, I routinely handled concerns from customers and members of the community regarding runway utilization and noise.
September 1991 to April 2007
FAA Boston, MA
Supervisor/Manager Air Traffic Controller
Although I performed the same duties in both locations, my duty location was moved from the radar room at Logan Airport to a new facility in Merrimack, NH in February 2004. In the position, I routinely performed as the shift manager overseeing all responsibilities of the facility during night time operations. This responsibility often required the completion of internal investigations regarding performance issues and customer inquiries.
Education
1969 Msgr Bonner HS Drexel Hill, PA
High School Diploma General
Belmont Abbey College Belmont, NC
Completed 2 years Psychology
Although performing better than satisfactory work, family and personal financial circumstances required my leaving the institution prior to receiving a degree.
Professional Affiliations
I served as the Regional Representative to SUPCOM (a committee of air traffic control supervisors) from 1994 through 1997. In the position, I functioned as liaison, between upper management and supervisory personnel on National Issues.
