Cover Letter

For

Thomas Lavrenz

Over thirty years of experience as a Superintendent and Director of Golf in Cedar Rapids is testament to the depth of knowledge and the breadth of problem solving opportunities that I have been given and mastered. This experience involved the care and operations of a four-course network within the City of Cedar Rapids.

I was in charge of developing and administering a budget exceeding 4 million dollars for 4-18 hole golf courses and clubhouses with an annual operating budget of $2 million. -Unusual- for the State of Iowa, through creation and monitoring of budgeting and financial procedures and documentation, the operation I was supervising was able to maintain Enterprise status insuring positive growth. Simply put, I was required to operate all courses without any tax dollars.

During my tenure as Director, I spearheaded the development and administering the start of a $10,000,000.00 master plan and for the operating budget and personnel budgets for 4 courses. With this type of financial experience, I believe I would be a key asset towards development of future budgets as well as any future master planning I think is imperative with any successful company.

I believe with my experience I not only meet the needs of all the responsibilities listed in most job descriptions, but I believe I exceed them as well. I have traveled the States and taken many classes on the various turf species including both warm and cool season grasses. I feel the emphasis of my experience is the fact that my attention to detail, attention to mentoring and attention to a continual desire to learn that I have never faced a -challenge- I cannot control and or improve.

It is my belief that any company can tremendously benefit by the knowledge I bring with me. My interest in your position is the result of returning to the workforce after taking a short leave of absence due to health problems that have now been mitigated.

I personally feel that I fit the needs of your position description and will appreciate the opportunity to interview at your convenience. If given the opportunity, I could and would be willing to relocate immediately. Please take this as a very serious desire to showcase my talents. I did notice that you listed numerous things in your requirements. Not only can I operate any and all equipment, I can and have done all of my own equipment maintenance as well. I am willing to relocate any area of the United States and internationally.

Sincerely,

Thomas K. Lavrenz
