Professional Experience

Aug 2012 – Oct 2012

MS Access Developer (contract) Feb 2009 – Sep 2009Platforms: Windows XP Applications: MS-Access 2003/2007Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Developed an application to manage the change request process for CIBC applications and system changes worldwide. The application allows CIBC to do away with the previous Excel spreadsheet tracking and Word document requests and brings simplicity, centralization, uniformity and transparency to the process. Through its interface with Clear Quest, the application maintains up to date records and was also able to recover lost requests, previously invisible to the change control board, and ensure no change control request would be misplaced again. Although dependant on the development, UAT and production data provided by Clear Quest, the application contains much more information that can be analyzed through its built in reports and from scratch user customizable reports screen to facilitate the change control board’s task of fulfilling as many of the most urgent requests, based on a multitude of criteria, within budget and available resources.

A couple years later I was called back yet again for another minor project.

Jul 2012 – Present

MS Access Developer (contract) Sep 2009 – Nov 2010Platforms: Windows 7 Applications: MS-Access 2003/2010Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Reengineered 24 interconnected Access databases developed by a previous consultant company, improving performance and achieving the functionality RBC wanted initially. Once stable and standardized, added functionality and increased performance as opportunity presented itself. Developed new Access databases as requested.

A month after the above project ended, was contracted again to work on another Access database with much higher visibility for a different area in the bank.

A couple years later I was called back yet again for another minor project.

Apr 2011 – Jul 2012

MS Access Developer (contract)Platforms: Windows XPApplications: MS-Access 2003Other: VBA, ADO, SQL, ASP, HTML

Documented and reengineered 28 interconnected Access databases developed by a previous employee responsible for producing over 200 dealer specific reports distributed both internally and to 250 dealerships across Canada. Reduced time to run reports from 15hrs down to 1hr. Reduced query objects, table objects and amount of code to be maintained by same factor or more. Reduced the number of required databases from 28 to 2. Finally created an internal web interface that allowed report sponsors to change the parameters of their nightly report batches and/or create new reports. Worked on several other Access and web development projects.

Jan 2011 – Apr 2011

MS Access Developer (contract)Platforms: Windows XP Applications: MS-Access 2003Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Reengineered 15 interconnected Access databases developed by an internal employee that eventually became a core application suffering from performance and accuracy issues, and become too large for the employee to maintain any further.

May 2009 – Oct 2009

MS Access Developer (contract)Platforms: Windows XP Applications: MS-Access 2007Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Developed an application to store and report on medical trial information.

MS Access Developer (contract) Dec 2008 – Jan 2009Platforms: Windows XP Apr 2008 – May 2008Applications: MS-Access 2003Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Brought in to perform maintenance, document and deploy an MS-Access database developed over time by two other developers. As this was a short contract, had to quickly ramp up my knowledge of the internal workings of the database to create accurate documentation, make the required modifications, port live data and have a successful deployment.

Jan 2009 – Mar 2009

MS Access Developer (contract) Apr 2008 – May 2008Platforms: Windows XP Nov 2007 – Feb 2008Applications: MS-Access 2003Other: VBA, ADO, SQL

Developed an application to manage almost 300 legal entity bank accounts, including associated directors & officers, signing authorities and business units. Application also had a paperless feature that allowed users to easily scan hard copies or attach soft copy documents directly to the records of each legal entity or bank account with the push of a button. The day to day workings of the application used an admin customizable workflow management system that guided the user through the 15-20 steps involved in opening/closing a bank account, adding or removing signors, etc. The system also allowed the users to easily track visually what part of the process each of their requests were in, so they could focus on requests that required their attention that day. The application was designed in such a way that an administrator could easily, without programming, alter or create new task lists, alter search fields and criteria type on any screen, reports or data merge letters used in bank direction, that would seamlessly integrate with the application.

As a result of the success of the above application, I was asked to develop a database to automate a VP’s loan securitization financial model for Maple Leaf’s loans.

Prior to the physical collection I determined their was a process deficiency and developed an MS-Access application to fill this void. My manager immediately changed my function to that of overall project data flow control and reporting. I then developed the end to end data flow process for the entire project. Although I was not officially a supervisor I became a point of contact for more than 12 other contractors resolving issues, facilitating requests and delegating work.

MS Access/Web Developer Platforms: Windows 98/2000/XP Professional Applications: MS-Office, MS-Access 97/2000, IIS 4.0/5.0, SQL Server 2000, Macromedia Flash 5, Crystal Reports 9, UP.Simulator, Maximizer 7, Norton Ghost 2003Other: Visual Basic, VBA, HTML, DHTML, CSS, ADO, Java Script, VB Script, ASP, SQL, WAP/WML

Contracted to design and develop a database application to replace a legacy Cobol system used to track, manage and report tombstone, production, RRSP contribution and insurance contribution information for over 35,000 actors across Canada. Conducted several information gathering meetings with personnel impacted by the change, not limited to, but including, the company president, affected department managers and end users. As the sole system analyst/programmer on this project, I worked with all affected personnel to design and develop a mirror of the legacy system while also taking the opportunity to make improvements where the end users and I saw opportunity for improvement and adding nice to have features that were deemed feasible. During the design and development phase I was responsible to schedule and manage systems analysis, user acceptance testing, user training & manual writing, gathering end user sign off on completed modules, follow up meetings and post deployment maintenance. During the 3 month parallel run with the legacy system, I was responsible to work with end users to compare output from both systems and resolve any discrepancies. Pegasus successfully replaced the existing legacy system and facilitated increased EDI capability from 30% to 80% thus lowering costly and error prone manual entry. Pegasus also decreased if not eliminated the number of paper-based searches required during the manual entry process and filing cabinet searches required using the legacy system.

Created Actra Fraternal Benefit Society`s first web site to provide vast information on medical benefits, insurance benefits, RRSP information, etc to members. The web site also had data links into Pegasus so that members could login and view their insurance and RRSP contributions, work histories, make address changes, check status of medical claims etc.
