A member of the opening team responsible for recruiting at all levels within the hotel and building a great team and setting up the Human Resources and Payroll Departments. A member of the Executive Committee responsible for facilitating the Desires Hotels culture (new hire orientation) and progressive succession planning. Conducted LEAD training which is a program designed to continue the development of existing and aspiring managers with gaining knowledge associated with the hiring process, the importance of accurate performance reviews and progressive disciplinary action. I was the direct liaison with Local 6 Union in resolving all associate disputes in a timely manner. Developed an excellent rapport with the Union in order to resolve all disputes amicably resulting in a reduced union presence in the hotel. I have a true understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement which helps to reduce internal disputes. I processed the weekly payroll for all union and non-union associates using the Paychex system. I also setup and administered the E-Time system of hand punches for all hourly associates. Completed month end benefit and contribution reports for the union and tracked all union increases and applicable deductions. I administered all benefit plans for non-union and union associates including but not limited to Workers Compensation, Medical, Dental, Disability, COBRA and all benefit claims. I maintained all associate recognition programs and insured they were practiced fairly. I was instrumental in creating a team environment by personally knowing all of the associates and interacting with them and showing them my interest in their success which in turn facilitated our open door policy and their comfort level communicating with management. I traveled to corporate headquarters in Miami to participate in training conferences with other property HR Directors to continue my development and share that with the rest of the team in New York. I conducted what we called Listen and Respond group sessions which was an opportunity for the associates to come together in small groups to voice any ideas or concerns allowing them the opportunity to assist in the resolution of internal and operational problems which gave them a sense of ownership.

A member of the Corporate Executive Committee assisting with the change of ownership at The Shoreham and The Mansfield Hotels. I was responsible for the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedure, the handling of employment related issues and the management of personnel decisions relating to changes in employment status. I implemented and developed the creation of the Human Resources department for the newly created hotel management company under new ownership including but not limited to the creation of the Associate Handbook, the benefits department and payroll processing function. I assisted with the decision and selection of the non-union benefits package which saved the company 50% in benefit expenses for the first two years of benefits coverage. I continued to negotiate and research additional voluntary programs with vendors. I designed the vacation and sick day policies for all non-union personnel. I guided all executive and department managers in proper employment practices and resolutions to employee relations issues, including being the direct liaison in negotiating collective bargaining resolutions with the local union and resolving issues with non-union personnel. These responsibilities included conducting all internal investigations relating to associate grievances and recommending resolutions to the other members of the Executive Committee. I developed and designed the payroll setup using ADP and E-Time for three separate entities which were the Executive Payroll, The Shoreham Hotel Payroll and The Mansfield Hotel Payroll consisting of approximately 200 associates combined. I recruited for all positions at The Shoreham and Mansfield Hotels by contacting and posting within hospitality schools, conducting open houses to maximize applicant exposure and posting on various job boards online. I was responsible for the monthly administration of all benefit packages including Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Voluntary Programs, Workers Compensation and Unemployment Determinations. I created and designed the documentation and regulations for the completion of the annual review process.

ARENSON OFFICE FURNISHINGS, NY Human Resources Manager Mar. 01 Feb. 03

I contributed to the successful development and execution of various Human Resources procedures, including the training of department managers in five locations in proper employment procedures, talent development and management processes, staffing, compensation, disciplinary procedures and performance evaluations. I screened and interviewed potential associates for senior managers and made recommendations based on talent and skills minimizing our exposure to constant turnover. I developed the Human Resources and Payroll Departments in Long Island City, NY when corporate headquarters were relocated from Greenville, South Carolina. I supervised and coordinated the Human Resources department which also included benefits and payroll. I revised and implemented policies and procedures in the associate handbook to comply with labor standards in 10 separate states and added comprehensive policies for Sexual Harassment, FMLA and others. I consulted with and advised senior management on legal issues, including associate litigation and conferred with outside legal counsel on resolutions. I trained operations and regional managers in 10 locations throughout the United States on proper hiring, termination, associate evaluation practices and the proper handling of delicate employment issues reducing the number of legal issues brought forward by former associates.
