Started non-profit consulting firm excelling in marketing and communications. Co-Principal John Bliss achieved 30 year success managing Bliss PR firm in NYC. Initial NPS clients include First Tee of CT, Suffield Academy, London Philharmonic, and Storm King School. Particular appeals of new business to segments including but not limited to non-profit organizations operating in education, museums, health, food, micro lending, and therapeutic horseback programming.
President MARKETING VENTURES WORLDWIDE, LLC - Guilford, CT
1991 to 2010
2008-2010. In the face of severe economic downturn in 2008, changed focus of operations to consulting The Choate School on how to improve Milestone Reunions. Performed alumni phone interviews as well as two 7-hour seminars in NYC with '48-'58 classes re communications, event planning, fund raising and on campus activities for 10th, 25th, 40th and most importantly, the 50th reunions. Output was significant 5-year critical plan process now in effect for all Milestone Reunions for all classes.
1991-2008. Established and operated a $12MM Company emphasizing and excelling in the creation and delivery of customized high-end travel incentive programming. Average Annual sales increases of client base from 2000 to present of $140MM realized net profit growth in excess of $68MM. In order to maximize both profitability and brand share, constrained business to only one major participant in each industry sector.
In 19 years of operating the marketing incentive business, the client list included major corporations including but not limited to Sony, Sears, Spalding, SNET, Price Waterhouse, Labatt, Avia, Wise Snacks, Borden, Foodbrands America, SBC DataComm, Ventura Foods, Duke University, Speedo, Tyson Prepared Foods, Rockport, Lexmark, Smith & Wesson, Danaher, and Diageo. Major responsibilities as President of the Firm included developing sales leads, signing new clients, maintaining major client relationships, financial planning, overseeing marketing and sales, hiring, and general management.
Vice President of Marketing THE JOURNEYMASTERS - Salem, MA
1986 to 1991
Created and implemented marketing function and systems for travel incentive company that provided top-end group travel programs as sales and customer motivational rewards. In addition to developing major advertising programs with which to attract major new business accounts, also sold six new accounts. Travel programs sold and experienced included Austria, Hawaii, Spain, London, the Caribbean basin, Australia and Southern California.

Created a major new business realized through a new branded program that included recipes for one hundred seafood and non-seafood soups prepared in-store and sold hot on salad bars and in seafood sections. Created and placed a totally integrated merchandising program including displays, kettles and signage in over 4,000 outlets including programs in top 50 major markets with 36 major retail chains including Kroger, Safeway, Albertsons, Giant Food, A & P, Acme, Food Lion, Vons, Smiths, Randall's, Shaws, Fred Meyer, Publix, Shop Rite and King Kullen.
Group Product Manager SPALDING GOLF - Chicopee, MA
1971 to 1977
As head of the Golf Division of SPALDING for seven years, introduced the Top-Flite Golf Ball (first golf ball ever presented on television) resulting in a $50MM new business segment that generated over $35MM in net profits by the end of its second year. Also, revamped the entire golf product line reducing the number of sku's from 3,200 to a condensed set of 500 items in 9 product categories. Introduced consumer coupon redemption through the pro shop for first time ever in the golf industry.
Background
Time prior to 1971 was spent in consumer package goods marketing with New Products and Grocery Products divisions of THE PILLSUBRY COMPANY in Minneapolis. Major activities included development and national introduction of totally new line of shelf stable nutritional snacks called "Space Food Sticks" and major consumer coupon programs that realized sixty percent increases in profitability in Brownie, Pie Crust and Cake mix lines.
Headed up two business entities, one of which was a small entrepreneurial enterprise LEATHERSMITH OF LONDON selling leather encased paper goods from London. The second was AMERICAN ARCHIVES where I established a customized catalog program for forty-three upscale department stories featuring INTERNATIONAL SILVER and over three hundred other lines of specialty merchandise.
Other Pertinent Facts: Grew up in five locales through 9th grade, attended and graduated from The Choate School. Active in student government, three varsity sports through college, Editor-in-Chief of yearbooks, radio announcing and production, and Sunday school teaching. Received honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps.
Been married to the same Lady raising three children now grown. Major interests today include reading, golf, paddle tennis, legitimate and local theatre, and travel. Active in community affairs as a Board member and participant with Madison Exchange Club and Madison Country Club, and a member of Alumni Association with The Choate School and Williams College.
