DB2 Introduction Class. Created Databases, Tablespaces,
Tables, and Indexes. Also loaded the Tables and used
SQL to extract data and create reports.
EXPERIENCE:
2001
- PRESENTRALEY'S - SACRAMENTO, CA
DB2 DBA
Came in to help ease the job load on the DB2 DBA's. In
particular created jobs to Migrate data between DB2
Subsystems, developed Image Copies to backup the two
largest tables in the Warehouse Application. Put
together Online Reorganizations for the Warehouse
Application. For the Online Reorganization Project,
coded 131 jobs to Reorganize Tablespace by Partition
and another job to Reorganize the entire Tablespace.
In addition assisted DBA's with their daily activities
when difficulties arose, worked with the DBA's in a
training capacity, as well as coding and testing backup
and recovery jobs. These jobs consisted of Image Copy,
Modifies, Runstats, DB2 Alters. Assisted application
developers with any DB2 related issues.
2001
- 2001AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY - AUSTIN, TX
DB2 DBA
Brought in to keep the DB2 Subsystems up and running
while IBM prepared to take over the operation of the
data center.
The first task participated in was a Fallback from
Version 6.1 to 5.1. Since the data center was turning
over all work to IBM, they did not want to pay the
extra cost in licensing fees for the Version 6.1
Upgrade. The Fallback involved two subsystems DB2T and
DB2R.
Also responsible for all Production DB2 Jobs. These
jobs consisted of Image Copy, Modifies, Runstats, DB2
Alters, and the Online Reorganizations. Assisted
application developers with any DB2 related issues. In
addition used Omegamon to monitor MVS, DB2, and CICS to
help ensure a smooth running job flow.
2000
- 2001HEALTHCARE OF AMERICA - NASHVILLE, TN
DB2 DBA
Worked with MVS/OS390 DB2 Version 6.1. My duties
consisted of monitoring DB2 Datasets for excessive
extents. Running online Reorganizations for
Tablespaces having a large number of extents and at time
using the Alter Utility to change the Primary and
Secondary allocations for the Tablespaces. In addition
responsible for cleaning up the SYSCOPY Catalog
Tablespace and SYSLGRNGX Directory Tablespace, using
the Modify Recovery Utility. For Tablespaces with
extensive copy entries used the Date Range Option to
remove the entries, this process involved about 300
Tablespaces and covered a period from 1997 to the
present. For another 200 Tablespaces removed Catalog
entries greater than Age 60.
Converted all the Utilities from BMC to CDB. The CDB
Utilities created for DB2 consisted of Unloads, Loads,
Batch Reorganizations, Online Reorganizations, Image
Copies, Alters Restores, Runstats, and added the
CDBREPART as well as the CDBPARTROLL.
The CDBREPART allows for the redefinition of Partition
Boundaries or Limitkeys without dropping and recreating
the Tablespace.
CDBPARTROLL is used only for Partitioned Tables; it
slides all Partitions down one leaving the last
partition available for loading of new data. This
Utility allowed for the periodic removal of old data
from the first Partition and the addition of new data
in the last position.
The conversion was completed for Test, Quality
Assurance and Production.
2000
- 2000MILLER BREWING
COMPANY
- MILWAUKEE, WI
DB2 DBA
There were two major projects worked on at Miller
Brewing. First developed, Automated and Implemented
Calculations for both Tablespaces as well as Indexes.
Also developed method and Implementation Strategy for
consolidating DB2PM Report for the two Subsystems on
different 3090 IBM Host computers.
Eight different formulas were developed for Tablespace
calculations. Tablespaces were categorized by
Partitioning, Record Size and Compression. As for the
Indexspace, four formulas were created using
Partitioning and the Unique Rule to classify the types
of Indexing.
Using REXX, twelve different modules were created for
both the tablespace and Indexspace calculations. Six
modules were created for controlling the activity,
selecting the objects to be processed, and calculations
of estimates. In addition six screens were created to
facilate initial data input, display selection lists,
and show the output calculations.
The second project involved DB2PM updates from the two
Non-Shared Host Computers. The DB2 Project consisted
of job creation on the foreign computer that extracted
accounting and statistics from the SMF Files. The
transfer files were then created and then data was
transmitted to the second host computer. A second job
was then created to receive the data, concatenate the
files of the first and second host computer, update the
DB2PM Tables and finally produce the Accounting and
Statistics Report.

DB2 PERFORMANCE AND TUNING
Worked with three different areas of Performance and
Tuning under DB2 Version 5.1. Three areas included
Table Partitioning for Concurrent Processing, Catalog
Reorganization as well as Shadow Catalog Creation, and
finally Creation of Monitoring Reports using Boole &
Babbage. For Partitioning Assignment work closely
with Applications Area. Created
Partitioning for six of the largest Tables in the
Subsystem. The purpose was to increase execution run
time by encouraging concurrent processing. Using
Platinum, Migrated the Partitioned Tables from Test, to
Acceptance, and then to Production. In addition,
developed methodology and jobs to Reorganize the DB2
Catalog in Test, Acceptance, and Production. Also
created and populated Shadow Catalogs for the above
Subsystems. Finally using Boole & Babbage Version 5.1
Performance Reporter developed a series of Reports to
Monitor each of the DB2 Subsystems.

Tuning activities as well as DB2 DBA Support.
DB2 Performance and Tuning
Installed and setup Buffer Pool Tool Version 4.3 from
Responsive Systems. With the Buffer Pool Tuning Aid
analyzed the EDM Pool size from the Collected Data and
Formula's provided by the IBM Manuals. In addition
executed the products Data Collector and Buffer
Statistics Report, in an effort to gain knowledge of
the Objects work load in relation to the Buffer Pool
Sizes. The Buffer Pool Tool offered help using other
Utilities such as the Buffer Pool Simulator, Object
Buffer Pool Analysis, as well as the Plan Authorization
Id Object Buffer Pool Analysis. Using the above
Utilities made recommendations on the EDM and Buffer
Pool Sizes, as well as a Strategy for reviewing Buffer
Pool Activity and Sizing.
Using Platinum's Plan Analyzer, worked with the
Application Team in developing better access path
strategies for the embedded batch SQL. Developed method
using DB2 Performance Trace with the CPU Trace Header,
TDATA(CPU), and DB2PM using SQL Trace Report to capture
and analyze the Dynamic SQL. Furthermore created
recommendations such as removing all the VCAT and
replacing it with STOGROUPS, altering displacements of
the Tables within the STOGROUPS. Using Quick Cat
created VSAM Report so DB2 STOGROUP information could
be compared against VCAT Datasets.
DBA Support
Created Key's Report indicating which Tables should be
review for Reorg. Using IBM's Utilities created and
executed Reorganizations for major DB2 Tables in the
Subsystem. Finally reviewed and made recommendations
as to other DB2 Utilities that should be coded and
added to their support jobs. These
Utilities included Copy, DSN1COPY, Check, Load, Merge
Copy, Modify, Quiesce, Recover, Repair, Report,
