Relevant Experience

Hutch's

January 18th-

September 25th 2012 approximately

Deli Manager/ Assistant Store Manager, Cashier

When I was hired at Hutch's I was trained to be a store associate. I was trained mainly as a cashier in the operation of counting in my register, proper cash drop procedures, proper counting out and filling out paperwork required to support balance of daily register operation.

I was also responsible for fuel pump operation which required the skills of multi-tasking with intercom to diesel pumps and gas pumps while continuing service to counter customers

I was approached within a months time to consider taking over operations as Deli Manager. My store manager was new to the store by only a month or two before me and wasn't comfortable with how the deli was being managed and wanted to make significant improvements to his standards. He told me he recognized my previous skills as a Cafeteria Manager for Watonga Schools and my current work ethics to be the combinations he was looking for. I accepted the promotion along with a raise and worked many hours enthusiastically and with excitement to rework the deli to operate more efficiently . I could see where improvements in cleanliness and food safety and handling procedures needed to be addressed immediatly. I had to gain the respect of the current deli employees as a new manager. I created very clear tasks lists based on the hours worked so each employee knew what they were responsible for accomplishing daily while maintaining the customers needs as number one priority. I worked alongside my employees to set an example of my standards and my managers clearly stated goals. I was willing to work hard and longer hours to ensure changes were made as fast as I could accomplish them.

Soon I took over responsibility for all deli scheduling for approximately 9 to 10 employees to operate the deli 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

I was also responsible for all ordering of food and supplies to ensure deli operations run smoothly without shortages.

I was responsible for weekly and monthly inventory and reports to show food sales, waste, profit and losses. I met weekly deadlines for all reports requested by my store manager.

Soon my manager Donnie Dean also asked me to function as an assistant store manager on a team of himself and two other assistant managers. This included tasks such as employee evaluations, hiring, firing, warnings, interviews etc. We would meet as a team weekly to address store issues and decide how to address them with the ultimate decision being the managers. We then would support him in that decision.

I worked in training of many new deli employees while also trying to retrain employees that had been there for many months or years. This often was a challenge but I think if you asked my deli team they would say I was a very good manager. I was fair in assigning tasks to ensure a fair workload to team members. I tried to utilize each one according to their strengths while improving and encouraging them to do better in weaker skills. I tried to address my teams issues or complaints and scheduling needs in a timely and fair manner while keeping in mind the ultimate goal on what was in the best interest of the store.

Due to recent heart issues with my husbands health my work-load became difficult for me to maintain. I want to stress that the Hutch's team and Hutchinson's family of owners and my Manager had been very kind and understanding and supportive in my difficulties. I approached my Manager with a request to possibly step down as Deli Manager back to a cashier. I did not want to stop working, I just needed less responsibility while being able to maintain and support my husband in his health issues. This request was denied. I understand that it was in the best interest of the store but I don't think realized my seriousness until I resigned.

I feel that I still have a good relationship with everyone at Hutch's. Donnie Dean and I have spoken in length and he has assured me that he would give me a good recommendation. I regret that I felt I had to leave employment there. My husband's condition has currently been stabilized enough that I feel comfortable returning to work.
