Pro le
I am a passionate and motivated worker, who prides himself in his adaptability. I have yet to be
daunted by any challenge presented to me, regardless of eld, and I am eager for new experiences.
I have extensive experience in multimedia communications, computer technical support, sales, lab
and eld science, microbiology, molecular biology, sustainability and agronomy. I have a deep and
abiding love of nature, and I have enjoyed my time in the eld above all other work experiences.
My philosophy is not content at any level of knowledge, and I see life as a continuous process of
learning.
Employment History
Webmaster and Super-administrator, The Michigan Botanical Club, 2012-Now
Currently, I am employed in maintaining and updating the Michigan Botanical Club's website
(MichBotClub.org) as the webmaster and super administrator. In this position, my responsibilities
include upkeep of the content management framework, which is based on the free Joomla! system,
troubleshooting for users, updating the web site to re ect new activities and content, and porting
content from an older website into the new framework. Thus far, I am really enjoying it, as it
marries my knowledge of botany and plant science with my multimedia, network administration
and web publishing talents. The fact that the position gives me opportunities to enjoy nature and
preserve native ora with a group of like minded scientists is a huge bonus. I hope to continue in
this role part time when I nd a full time job.
ArmyTek Optoelectronics Inc. 2012-Now
On a contract with ArmyTek I rewrote the documentation for the ArmyTek Predator, a highly
sophisticated current controlled and programmable ashlight, in order to improve readability and
make the operation of this complex device more understandable. I also rewrote some parts of their
web site that were unclear due to rst-language dif culties on the part of the original author. They
are currently going through a reorganization, but they are retaining me for any future manuals that
they might need linguistically proofed.
Sales and Stockman, Mike's Books & Ned's Books, 2012-Now
Recently, I have been paying my bills by taking part time positions at Mike's Books and Ned's
Books in Ypsilanti, where I was responsible for the retrieval and sale of college textbooks, clothes,
electronic gear and various sundry items. This involved a lot of database use and manipulation, face
to face sales, and climbing up shelves to retrieve boots. Essentially, I was spider-librarian for a
month. It was fun, ful lling, and paid the bills.
Cameraman, Editor, Producer, Scriptwriter, and On Screen Persona, Chaos Butter y
Productions, www.thetripforlife.com 2010-2011
Upon leaving school, and prompted by the encouragement my scienti c colleagues, I set about
mastering the use of multimedia content to teach and enlighten. I decided that the best and most
ef cient way to hone my media skills into something more formidable was to engage in an
ambitious project; to produce a TV show on the green and sustainable topics that I am passionate
about, particularly in the elds of agriculture, culture and infrastructure. I did everything myself;
developing the web site, creating art pieces for the show, animating title sequences and other
pieces, writing, lming, editing and voice overs. The web site was an extensive customization of a
publicly available template using the SquareSpace platform, with custom CSS and javascript. My
objective was not commercial success, which is elusive at best in the miasma of web video, but
rather to hone my skills and network with like minded people who I might work with to build a
better future, while producing as professional a show as I possibly could about the cutting edge of
permaculture and green living. In that regard, I consider the project, The Trip for Life, to be a
rousing success, and the dozens of episodes I created remain online as a resource to people who
are seeking such information.
Lab Technician 2001-2010
At the Ohio State University, I worked as a lab technician under many supervisors throughout my
undergraduate and graduate carriers. Over that period, I worked in many environments, ranging
from cancer biology to plant biotechnology to soil science. Universal to these experiences was a
need to remain exible, and keep stock of the materials necessary to conduct scienti c research. I
independently conducted experiments using real-time PCR, ELISA, FACS, high pressure liquid
chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography, cell culture (mammalian, bacterial, fungal, and
oral), gel electrophoresis of both proteins and nucleic acids, complex reagent formulation, and
genetic transformation of bacteria, yeast and plants. I also collected samples in the eld, and
engaged in the development of new biochemical techniques, speci cally for the extraction of whole
chromatin for use in epigenetic experiments.
Computer Technician, Crossword Solutions Inc.; Columbus Ohio 1997-2000
As a computer technician with Crossword Solutions, I was responsible for the maintenance and
repair of hundreds of Macintosh and a few PC computers, in use at many of the largest companies
in the Columbus metropolitan area, including the Limited, Bath and Body Works, Consolidated
Stores and SBC advertising. As part of this work, I was required to connect, network and maintain
a wide variety of publishing and media gear related to the advertising operations of those
companies, including routers, gateways, print servers and networked backup.
Other Experience
I have been involved in volunteer activity in Ann Arbor during the past year aimed at promoting a
local and sustainable food system, including spending many hours raising hoop houses for small
farmers with the Selma Cafe this summer, and engaging in work and dialog related to local food
and sustainable agriculture. I currently belong to the American Phytopathological Society and the
Michigan Botanical Club.
Education
Master of Science in Plant Cellular and Molecular Biology, The Ohio State University. 2010
Master of Science in Plant Pathology, The Ohio State University. 2010
Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics with a minor in Biochemistry, with Honors, The Ohio
State University. 2004
Johnstown Monroe High School. 1999
Skills
I have a wide variety of skills, ranging from creative skills such as graphic design, page layout, and
creative writing, to practical skills such as bench work in a modern laboratory of molecular
biology, eld work in diverse agricultural and forestry settings and analytical skills including
statistics, data analysis and collection. The past few years have been spent in the dogged pursuit of
knowledge and expertise in the eld of modern communications, with an emphasis upon the new
medias of web self-publishing, blogging networks and web video. I would nd any sort of work,
be it individual, or social, intellectually or physically demanding to be interesting and ful lling.
