determine the effect of training teachers to include parents in school and

providing support systems to parents on the outcomes of youth with social and

designed to develop a coding system based on taped therapy sessions for

therapeutic alliance in children and adolescents. Duties: coding system

designed to develop a coding system based on taped therapy sessions for the

therapeutic alliance in children and adolescents. Duties: coding system

Race/Ethnicity and Standardized Assessments Project Studied whether the

match between ethnicity of examiner and examinee was related to the scores

obtained on standardized assessments. Duties: data collection, data analysis,

study design, poster presentation, manuscript preparation, grant proposal

Clinican Survey Project Study designd to determine which factors influence

therapists invitation to parents to be involved in treatment with their children

and adolescents. Duties: design and maintenance of the data collection

website, study design. (Supervisor: Vicky Phares, PhD)

1999-2000 Research Assistant, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, Durham, NC

Smoking Cessation Project Studied whether a telephone intervention could

help adolescents to quit smoking. Duties: Used motivational interviewing

techniques over the phone to counsel adolescents to quit smoking,

experimental design, training of future interviewers, piloting study. (Supervisor:

Isaac Lipkus, PhD)

Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer Risk Projects Studied whether informing

subjects of their true risk for cancer will affect their perceptions of their risk

and consequent health behaviors. Duties: instrument design, managing

laboratory interviews, conducting interviews, study management. (Supervisor:

Isaac Lipkus, PhD)

Risk Perception Project Studied whether the method of presenting risk

influenced individuals perceptions of their risk for disease. Duties: data entry,

conducting interviews. (Supervisor: Isaac Lipkus, PhD)

1998-2000 Summer Interviewer/Tutor, Duke Fast Track Program, Durham, NC

Fast Track Project Studied whether an early intervention with at-risk children

will lead to improved outcome after high school. Duties: Tutored students in

the program in English and Math, conducted interviews for the project in

homes of participants with parents and students.

Duties: Intake interviews, individual and group psychotherapy, classroom

psychoeducational group therapy, teacher consultation. Common client

concerns include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, suicidal ideation and

behavior, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorders

and childhood aggression.
