Celebration of Children s Books, Montana Committee for the Humanities, August 26,
2002. Award-winning author Gail Carson Levine came to campus for a three-day visit.
Day One: Gail visited my children s literature classes. Day Two: Gail visited four
elementary schools in Bozeman. Day Three: Gail was the keynote speaker at the
Children s Literature Workshop on campus, attended by students, teachers, and
librarians.
Teaching Excellence/Professional Development Visitor Series, 2000-2001: Award-
winning children s author Mary Azarian was the keynote speaker at the 2nd annual
Children s Literature Workshop, Reid Hall, Montana State University. The keynote speech
was part of a three-day visit to Bozeman. Day One: Mary visited my children s literature
classes. Day Two: Visit to Morningstar Elementary to demonstrate illustration technique
of wood cutting. Day Three: Keynote speaker at Children s Literature Workshop.
The Art of the Science Picture Book: How Children s Book Illustrators Create the
World, Big Sky Institute Teaching and Learning Fellows at MSU, December 7, 1999.
Created, organized, and facilitated the three-day visit of an award-winning children s
illustrator, Bob Marstall, September 21-23, 2000. DayOne: Campus visit to education
classes. Day Two: Hands-on visit to Morningstar Elementary. Day Three: Keynote
Speaker at MSU Children s Literature Conference. Orchestrated the one-day conference
with local presenters from MSU, the public schools, and the public library.
