Homecare requires strong assessment skills in both medical and mental health areas. I worked part-time for Personal Touch from 1995-2003, then I became full-time in May 2003. Hired as a part-time staff nurse in 1995. Promoted to Program Director in 1997. Under my care, the program evolved from a social day care to a dementia-specific program. I was responsible for all departments and the daily running of the program. In my many roles, I was marketer, admissions coordinator, counselor and support group leader. I was very active in the community and worked closely with clients and their families in looking to their future care and end-of-life decisions.

I managed a full-time staff of 8-11 which included nursing, social services and activity staff, Volunteers, interns and students worked with us on a regular basis. I also established an on-site library for care-givers and family members.

CASPAR Intervention Center

Evening charge nurse in a public detox center. It was a 28 bed, 24 hour admission/discharge center for the homeless and uninsured population. I managed the medical detox of up to 28 patients at a time, as well as involvement in case-management and aftercare. Provided clinical supervision to the counselors on my shift.

Began as 16 hrs/week nurse for Research Program, to collect early morning lab tests and conduct data collection. After 3 months, was invited to come on full time, fulfilling the need for the Research Team as well as the PICU staff.

Research Nurse: Conducted preadmission patient assessments, phlebotomy, EKG, s and other necessary tests requested by MD. After admission to our studies, I collected data through evaluation and assessment. Administered study medication as prescribed. I presented data to the Research Team as required. Worked as Liaison between ICU staff and the research team. This involved advocating for the in-house participants who were admitted to the PICU, advocating for the staff by making the research team aware of the difficulties of caring for the participants and educating the staff about the studies. This involved negotiation, teaching and problem-solving.

PICU Nurse: worked regular day shift monitoring patients, providing medication administration, working closely with mental health workers and fellow nurses.
