Research

1992-1994 Postdoctoral Assistant. University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio: High-Resolution Stratigraphy of the

Ordovician of Cincinnati using lithologic and sample data (see publication list in CV). Helped design

research approach for team of paleontologists and helped write successful NSF grant proposal in addition

to stratigraphic and paleontological field work.

Government

1995-present Environmental Scientist. Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Air Quality, Salt

Lake City, Utah I respond to public complaints about air quality issues and asbestos violations and public

inquiries about asbestos regulations and procedures by telephone, Internet email, and in person. I help

provide public information and outreach including Internet homepage (webmaster), and provide instruction

on regulatory issues at certification classes. I designed and maintain database for tracking asbestos

contractors. I recently headed the committed that completed rewriting asbestos regulations for the state of

Utah asbestos program.

Museums, Fossils, and Related Positions.

1993 Consultant/Museum Exhibits. to the US National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C.: Located

potential sites from which to collect a large block of representative Upper Ordovician strata from the

Cincinnati, Ohio area for display in Washington, D.C.

1991-1992 Collections Technician, Invertebrate and Vertebrate Paleontology. Cincinnati Museum of Natural

History, Cincinnati, Ohio: Identified, classified, organized and preserved vertebrate and invertebrate fossils

ranging in age from Cambrian to Recent. Supervised work of volunteers ranging in age from preteen to

adult. Answered public inquiries about fossil specimens and geologic questions. Cincinnati Museum of

Natural History, Cincinnati, Ohio).

1984-1987 Vertebrate fossil Collector and Preparator. B righam Young University Earth Science Museum, Provo,

Utah: Collected and prepared vertebrate fossils for scientific study. Most fossils were dinosaurs from

quarries in Colorado and Utah (Dry Mesa, Dalton Wells, Cleveland-Lloyd). This includes direct experience

in excavation, quarry mapping, and areal surveying, and hundreds of hours in the lab preparing dinosaur

fossils.

1985-1986 Consultant/Antiquities Act Compliance with Wade Miller, BYU, Provo Utah for US Bureau of Land

Management and for intermountain pipeline project. Searched literature for fossil localities in the "Arizona

Strip" (Arizona north of the Grand Canyon), along a proposed pipeline route accross Utah. Compiled list of

localities and fossils, and rated them according to sensitivity. Helped prepare annotated bibliography.

Additional Field/Laboratory Experience

1985 Excavations (Pleistocene mammals) and Mapping o f Rock Springs cave in the Stansbury Mountains,

Excavated Pleistocene mammals and mapped passageway geometry and geologic features of Rock Springs

Cave in the Stansbury Mountains of north-central Utah.

1986 Excavation of Middle Cambrian Fossils f rom the Spence Shale of Wellsville Mountains and in Wheeler and

Marjum formations of House Range of Utah. Collected hyolithids, trilobites, other arthropods, and various

algae. Collected holotype of U tahcaris orion ( Arthropod).

1986 Excavation of Plant and Crustacean Fossils f rom the Mississippian Manning Canyon Shale near Utah Lake

in Utah.
