Founded four companies, one biotechnology, two retail and one consulting. RESULTS: (1) ReproGen, Inc a Acquired $125,000 in proof of concept funding; (2) RainStar Ranch, LP - Increased sales from $0 to $4 50,000, achieved a conversion rate of 28%; managed all aspects of the business. (3) For Ever Star, LLC (DBA: RainStar II, LLC) a Developed two ecommerce websites, evaluated price sensitivity and elasticity on several products. (4) AK Consulting, LLC a For Life Sciences & Biotechnology Business Development and Communications.

Assisted senior university leaders in launch of two Life Science multi-user core equipment facilities. Created budget, equipment requirements, lay-out and time-line for facility build-out project. Formed consensus with faculty, created proposals and presented to foundation officials. RESULTS: Obtained $800,000 in project funding from two foundations (Brown and Keck).

Initiated and managed collaborations between multiple research, government, and private sector organizations. Evaluated remote sensing technology to aid in predicting air quality to assist in asthma alerts at local and regional levels. Worked with industry research leaders to integrate NASA air quality research with hospital and Medicaid data. RESULTS: Formulated an approach/experimental design for integrating data feeds for subsequent model development to detect and mitigate air quality-related diseases.

Started, managed, and operated a comparative mammalian in vitro fertilization/embryo culture laboratory to study/facilitate reproduction in endangered species. Acquired equipment and supplies. Hired, trained, directed laboratory staff including two lab technicians, three graduate students, one post-doctoral fellow, and two visiting scientists. Developed operating procedures and animal care protocols. Prepared budgets and financial reports. Designed and conducted in vitro research experiments on sperm physiology, sperm-egg interaction, and embryo culture in hamsters, cattle and Rhesus monkeys as model systems for endangered species. RESULTS: Brought a state-of-the-art, fully functional laboratory on line, advancing knowledge to save endangered species.

Created ideas and built a state-of-the-art fluorescence-based cell analysis tool to test the e.ffect of simulated micro-gravity on cell membranes. Developed partnerships with diverse project stakeholders. Conducted research using biological cell culture, bio-informatics, cellular imaging and flow cytometry. Analyzed, presented data, and wrote grants. RESULTS: Obtained $125,000 in laboratory and R&D funding. Created biomedical prototype for subsequent investigation of the effects of microgravity on cell membranes and human health during space travel.

Created interdisciplinary partnerships to integrate data feeds from numerous satellite systems and existing databases to create an actionable global air quality modeling system, to identify point sources of air pollution. RESULTS: Identified multiple data feeds including satellite, GSPS, GIS and weather forcasting tools for the improvement of regional air quality and public health management.

Developed an automated flying insect detection device (AFIDS) as part of a NASA project to deliver a decision support tool for detection and mitigation of potential insect-born disease threats for Public Health and Homeland Security. Teamed with engineers, NASA staff, and institutional partners. Obtained $52,000 proof of concept funding. Designed and conducted experiments, wrote reports and manuscripts, and worked on patent application. RESULTS: Awarded provisional patent. Invention story published in industry NASA Technology Brief.

Launched and managed a womenas apparel retail business. Identified and evaluated market opportunity and created strong business brand through alignment of product, pricing, service delivery, and total customer experience. Led all business functions including human resources, training, finances, purchasing, inventory control, merchandising and sales. Supervised a staff of seven. Relocated operation three times to accommodate expanding sales. RESULTS: Grew business from $0 to $500,000 annual sales during challenging economic environment. Achieved average visitor to buyer conversion rate of 28%.
