Professional Summary -
Full Time
Employment
[8]Lionhearth Technologies, Los Gatos, CA, 1998 - present
Responsible for creating state of the art Avatars, 3D VRML
characters for web based applications, using 3DStudio, Nendo,
Photoshop, and 3D Paint applications.
[9]
OnLive! Technologies, Cupertino, CA, 1994-1997
Responsible for the design and creation of Avatars, real-time
lip-synching 3D characters used over the Internet in OnLive!'s
Traveler product. Created full-bodied, articulated avatars with
various animated motion sequences, as well as a variety of
characters focusing on lip synch and facial expressions. Working
with engineers, I developed and documented the authoring process
from scratch, researching various platforms and 3D applications,
finding creative ways of acquiring both with no cost to the
company. Attended two weeks of WaveFront training in Santa Barbara,
CA. I also helped with real-time space design, creating 3 low-poly
(2500) environments. Primarily used Wavefront's Kinemation package,
3DStudio, 3DMax, Fractal Painter, and Photoshop.
As well as managing in-house contractors, I spent 10 days in Japan
at NEC, training them to create their own characters for NEC's
Biglobe site. Also helped with many administrative duties such as
buying equipment, software, and hiring. As one of the first
employees in the company, I was instrumental in recruiting, filling
nearly every position in what soon became a first-class design
team.
Twin Dolphin Games,
Redwood Shores, CA, 1992-93
Lead 3D character animator on Forgotten Castle, a D&D style action
game developed by a small start-up. Came up with a story line,
developed the plot, and designed all monsters and humans for a
fantasy role playing game, creating both 3D sprites and 2D
character animations. Used 3DStudio, Fractal Painter, and
Photoshop.
Blue Feather Company, New Glarus, WI, 1988-89
2D artist and writer. Created computer generated videos for mom and
pop TV production house. Operated lights, cameras, and video
editing equipment. Responsible for ad copy and illustrations,
creating promotional material, and technical instructions for the
use of their Teleprompters. Used Studio 8, Pixel Paint, Director,
PageMaker, Swivel 3D and Freehand.

Dear Friend and Colleague,
June 1999
Currently I am not looking for work, as I am following my bliss at
Lionhearth Technologies, developing state of the art Avatars -
characters for Internet communication.
Before working at Lionhearth, I freelanced, and took almost a full
load at DeAnza College while attending San Francisco State's
Multimedia Studies Program. At DeAnza College I studied Film and
Animation; at San Francisco State I took courses in Web Design and
Internet Technologies while working as a TA for for classes in
3DStudio Max and Character Design. Currently I am attending West
Valley College in Saratoga, CA, focusing on Figure Painting and
Sculpture.
If you have a habit of attending the Game Developer's Conference, I
may have met you. I have enjoyed every conference since 1993. In
May 1998 I had the good fortune to speak at the Game Developer's
Conference in Long Beach, CA, where I met my boyfriend, [10]Ian
MacKenzie, one of the managers of the CA program. (The topic was on
"The Aesthetics of 3D Real Time Animation," incidently). In October
1997 I was a speaker and coordinator at [11]Avatars 97 at SFSU, a
conference sponsored by the [12]Contact Consortium.
As a freelancer, I had the pleasure of working with a pre-funding
start-up called BeThere, developing photomodeling techniques. I
also collaborated as a 3D artist with my friends at [13]NerveNob, a
small start-up. In the Summer of 1997 I consulted for [14]Accolade
on a multi-user 3D game called Paradise, and worked with
[15]Extempo on their Jennifer James character - an Imp,
(Improvisational Characters for the Internet), driven by a
proprietary AI engine. In the Spring of 1997 I produced
illustrations and promotional material for [16]MetaCreations
Corporation using Detailer and RayDream Designer, a consumer-end 3D
product. A very creative group, that was probably one of my most
exciting contract gigs.
Before freelancing, I was the 6th employee at [17]OnLive!
Technologies, developing low-poly real-time environments and
characters for their Traveler product - an Internet-based 3D
Virtual World software that allows people to socialize by
navigating through 3D spaces while talking with their own voices
via emotive, lip-synching 3D avatars. My job was to work closely
with engineers to document, develop the production path, and train
others to produce 3D avatars for the Internet, including NEC's Big
Globe team in Sendai, Japan. Currently there are over 30,000
world-wide users on various Traveler sites, most of them using
customized versions of avatars I created. You can go to
[18]http://www.olgate.com to download the client.
My first job in the Bay Area was at a now defunct start-up, Twin
Dolphin Games in Redwood Shores California, started by the renowned
producer and game designer, Todd Mitchell Porter. As the lead
animator, I created all monsters and humans for a hack & slash FRP
game, and worked closely with others to accommodate an original
story line into compelling game play.
Before moving to California in 1992 to work for Twin Dolphin Games,
I made my living in Wisconsin partly as a fine artist - selling
paintings, and partly doing computer graphics and technical
illustration, as well as writing and editing on the Macintosh. In
1990 I opened a cooperative art gallery with four other women in
Madison where I was doing graduate work in English at the
University of Wisconsin. I began my first full-time computer
graphics job in 1988, working for Blue Feather Corporation, a tiny
company in rural WI. There I created videos for public TV, surreal
landscape experiences that morphed from one scene to another.
Before moving to Wisconsin, I lived in Memphis for 6 years where I
attended Rhodes College and then Memphis College of Art, spending
most of my time at the nearby zoo drawing animals, doing figure
studies, or painting landscapes. I grew up in rural Mississippi;
with few amusements, I spent much of my time reading, writing, and
sketching. Please peruse my resume. If my skills are relevant, I
would enjoy showing my work.
Sincerely, Stasia McGehee
