Scientific Experience
-
Conducted an independent research project with fellow student in 11th
grade. Project focused on the genetic modification of a tobacco plant using a
species of Agrobacterium containing recombinant DNA plasmids. Total time spent
on project was over 100 hours.
-
Conducted an independent research project in 12th grade.
Project focused on the growth and manipulation of various strains of Anabaena to
produce levels of hydrogen gas to demonstrate a possible source of sustainable
energy production. Total time spent on project was approximately 50 hours.
-
Conducted and independent research project in 12th grade.
Project focused on the manipulation of various soil bacteria, limited to
Bacillus and Clostridium. Bacterium demonstrated ability to generate high levels
of hydrogen gas through fermentation of a wide variety of substrates. Total time
spent on project included over 300 logged laboratory hours and over 150 hours
spent on library research.
o
Project was entered in the 2006 Reading-Berks Science and
Engineering Fair, in the category of Earth and Space Sciences.
o
Project was entered in the 2006 International Science and
Engineering Fair, in the category of Biochemistry.
-
Attended 2006 Pennsylvania Energy Expo at Pennsylvania State University.
-
Toured the Beltsville Agricultural Research Facilities in June of 2005.
