Bacterial Barcodes is a molecular diagnostic company that specializes in the development and standardization of automated molecular typing for epidemiological and classification studies of microbial pathogens.
Accomplishments at Bacterial Barcodes:
Informatics:
* Supported in designing and development of the DiversiLab System Software
* Designed and developed the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
* Helped design and develop MYSQL database schema and architecture for the new version of DiversiLab System Software.
* Helped in the development of user interface of the new version of the DiversiLab System software.
* Carried out Installation Qualifications (IQ) and Operational Qualifications (OQ) for installation of new customer sites under QSR.
* Validation and testing of the software during development.
Technical and Laboratory Work:
* Developed strain and species-specific DNA fingerprinting kits for molecular typing of various pathogenic microbes using repetitive sequences based PCR (repPCR) and microfluidics technology.
* Wrote SOP for making BBCI libraries, writing training manuals and user guides under QSR.
* Training in laboratory practices (Development and QSR)
* Submitted abstracts in the form of posters for presentation at various scientific meetings and conferences including ASM, ASM Bio-Defence, ICAAC, IMEMM and ISHAM.
* Helped in primer search and design using various sequence analysis software and tools
Marketing:
* Developed (using HTML) and launched the company's corporate website * Created images and figures for company brochures and other marketing documents.
* Wrote training manuals and user guides for the DiversiLab System software under QSR.
* Wrote technical notes and application profiles under QSR.
* Helped produce Power Point presentations for educational, informational purposes.
* Created announcement poster boards and flyers for tradeshows and other Marketing purposes.
* Gained a working knowledge of the contact database ACT! 6.0
July 1998 - Oct 1999
Department: INVENTIONS; Syngenta (previously known as Zeneca Agrochemicals).
Worked in the Plant Biotechnology Section of the department. Duties included the verification of the integrity of clones being produced for transformation into plants using Molecular Biological methods and bioinformatics packages. Designed and developed MS-Access relational database to store information about clones collected from the experimental officers in the department.
Feb 1998 - July 1998
Department of Molecular Genetics at the Institute of Ophthalmology.
Worked as a research assistant for a Scientific Officer. The project involved working on a corneal dystrophy called Congenital Hereditary Endothelial Dystrophy (CHED), which had previously been mapped to a region on chromosome 20p11.2. Duties also included the physical mapping of the disease locus.
Sept 1995 - Aug 1996
Joint Microbiology Research Unit; King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Routine work involved the taxonomy of the two main genospecies of A. naeslundii by Microbial and Molecular Biological methods. Main Responsibilities included isolating single colonies of A naeslundii, isolating the chromosomal DNA, running RFLP analysis on the restriction digests to detect the differences in the RFLP patterns of the different strains within the same genospecies. Further identification of the different strains within the same genospecies was carried out by PCR.
