College - ITT Technical Institute June 2008 - Present
Composition I - The intent of this course is to lay a firm foundation in process writing, paragraph patterns and writing essays. The course also introduces the student to the research process by walking them through a research paper. Other major areas of concentration include illustration, comparison/contrast, cause and effect, peer review, and resume and cover letter design.
Composition II: Argument & Debate ~ This course focuses on appropriate rhetoric structures and styles for analytical and argumentative writing. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, reading skills, and elements of research in the information age. Other major areas of concentration include debate and deliberation, logical fallacies, evidence, and current events.
Group Dynamics & Theory ~ In this course, students examine the elements of successful teams and small decision making groups. Emphasis is on communication, critical thinking and group process techniques. Other major areas of concentration include communication theory, managing group conflict, group leadership, meeting effectiveness, and group presentations.
Professional Portfolio & Development ~ In this course, students plan and compile their final career objective projects in the form of a portfolio. Instruction on interviewing procedures and writing business communications is included in this course. Other major areas of concentration include self-assessment, developing an employment search marketing profile and plan, electronic and traditional job search techniques, tools, and documents, interview skill building, and networking strategies.
McKeesport Area High School August 2008-June 2011
English 12: Survey of British Literature ~ Beginning with the Medieval Period, and progressively moving through history, this class covers the major British works of each era. Focused on reading, writing, analysis, and history, the class presents a wide array of genres including poetry, drama, short stories, and novels.
* English 11: Survey of American Literature ~ Beginning with the Native Americans, and ending with present day, this class offers exposure to the most prominent works written throughout American history. Other focuses include PSSA preparation, research paper development, poetry, and various other American topics.
* PSSA English 12 ~ A remedial course required of students that do not earn a passing grade on their PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment), this class covers topics including basic sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, reading skills, and basic essay format.
