Educational Philosophy
Today's learner is one who is immersed in technology, one who has instant access to a
wealth of information and connectivity with others like never before. Today's learner will be
faced with problems not yet imagined and will make use of technologies not yet invented to
solve these problems.
My role as an educator is to teach learners how to learn through skills based conceptual
learning, how to creatively solve problems and how to access technologies with transferrable
skills.
Career Overview
Following my 4 year degree (B. Teach and B. Arts) at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia I
successfully gained employment at Auburn South Primary School as a grade 5 teacher. At this school I
gained a good insight into the PYP, including the authorisation process, as well as developing my skills
in the classroom. I was involved in a number of whole school events, such as musical productions and
school fairs. Over the years I took on a number of roles of responsibility including a position on an
Occupational Health and Safety committee, maths committee and I also led the ICT committee for a
year. It was at Auburn South where I met my partner, Carrie Wilton.
After 3 years at Auburn South, Carrie and I decided to head overseas to teach to allow us to travel
more easily and affordably. We attended the Search Associates job fair in Sydney in January 2007
where we interviewed with a number of schools including Tokyo International School, Dresden
International School, New International School of Thailand and Canadian International School (CIS) in
Singapore. We were both offered positions at CIS and began there in July 2007 and remain employed
at CIS. In my years at CIS I have taken on the role of Grade 5 Lead Teacher, Community Outreach
Lead, Grade 4 and 5 classroom teacher, undertaken the Assessment in the PYP workshop and been a
driving teacher in the development of classroom technologies. I am currently working with Early
Childhood through Grade 3 as Technology Integration.

PYP Technology Integration Educator
Working with teachers and students from Early Childhood Education to Grade 3 in the International
Baccalaureate Organisation Primary Years Program (IBO PYP), I help to provide planning, teaching
and assessment advice on how to best integrate technology.
I closely follow the philosophy of the role of ICT in the PYP, working to ensure that ICT skills are
developed in genuinely integrated uses of technology to help students investigate, create,
communicate, collaborate, organise and be responsible users of technology.

My experiences as classroom teacher and grade level learning lead teacher have provided me with
the teaching expertise and understanding needed to know how to best integrate technology in to an
existing curriculum framework. My ICT passion, interest and belief in self-learning provide me with
the knowledge on how to best use technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment.

Grade 5 Lead Teacher
As lead teacher I work closely with school administration, curriculum coordinators and other
teachers to ensure high quality learning and teaching. Some specific tasks include:
identifying and addressing professional development needs,
curriculum planning,
administrative procedures,
organising and administering a 5 day excursion,
being a role model for best practice within an inquiry based learning environment.
Jul 2007 - Jun 2010
Grade 5 teacher
As grade 5 class teacher I am responsible for the planning, administering and assessing of English,
Math and units of inquiry, among other subjects, within an inquiry based learning environment.
Some particular highlights currently within my classroom include:
English Workshop - students are involved in the decision making process of their
learning within English studies. Students undertake reading responses, book
discussions, writing within a Writer's Workshop format, as well as particular skills
development as identified by myself. Most of this learning occurs online with the use of
Google Apps.
Math - My math classroom allows students to work at the appropriate skill and
knowledge level for their own needs. Tasks are tailored to students' needs and all
students have the opportunity for small focus group interaction with the teacher at least
once a week. An emphasis is placed on developing conceptual understanding followed
by consolidation of skills.
PYP Units of Inquiry - with over 5 years teaching the PYP, I have developed a strong
understanding of how to implement conceptual based learning with development of
necessary skills to be a successful learner.
