EXPERIENCE: 2010 - 2012. Director of Development, the School at Church Farm. With a staff of two, responsible for all fundraising and external communications, including the web site and social media. Conducted a strategic planning exercise for the Alumni Association to focus their energies on fundraising, special events, development of a class agent system. In Alumni Annual Giving, secured a challenge match from an alumnus, which doubled participation in the Annual Fund and increased giving by 92%. Managed a portfolio of 73 major gift prospects in the early stages of cultivation with a goal of $450,000 per year in new, unrestricted income. Increased the Parents Annual Fund by 34%. Entered the School into preparations for a $63MM capital campaign, probably launched in 2013, by focusing on preparation and strengthening of the case, screening and research of sources of funds, identification, and cultivation of campaign leadership, training of staff.

Selected Results: At Mercy Health System, designed and installed a major gift program that VP R. Brian Elderton transported to LaSalle University, where the method raised over $84,000,000 in seven years. Key to this were new communication strategies and more visible recognition and stewardship activities aimed at getting the donor to re-enter the major gifts cycle quickly. At Christiana Care, increased return on donor acquisition mailings from 1.51% to 2.87%. Method: Used direct mail experiments to determine the tactic, the pre-commitment effect, which produced the greatest return. At Delco Memorial Foundation, took an anemic Annual Fund Program from $210,000 to $560,000 by involving senior administration in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities; enrolling selected donors as volunteers in the effort, and reforming an Auxiliary Board whose charter was to support the Foundation but which had foundered without leadership and guidance from the Administration.

EXPERIENCE: 1988-1992. Vice President, Development, and member of the senior management team of Paoli Hospital. Served simultaneously as Executive Director of the Foundation at Paoli, a 501(c)(3) supporting organization. Reported to the Hospital Board. Staffed the Foundation Board. The Foundation conducted all fundraising, communications, and external relations activities. As well, it operated three controlled affiliates: a for-profit, retail pharmacy and two not-for-profit medical office buildings. Responsible for fundraising activities, including capital campaigns and major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, stewardship, special events, and publications. Responsible for Foundation strategic planning. Supervised the Director of Volunteers and three staff members, evaluated the Director, her staff and the activities of the 108 volunteers who served the Hospital. Worked with Marketing Department to plan and evaluate advertising campaigns.

Selected Results: Took a dispirited and disorganized development staff of five and, using a high performance model and 360 degree evaluations, transformed them into one of the most productive teams in the Hospital. Installed a major gifts program and used moves management as a permanent part of the Foundation`s fundraising. Rejuvenated and completed on time a sagging $5MM Campaign to build a new Cancer Center. Method: Remodeled the Foundation Board to support fundraising, enrolled the Campaign`s two biggest donors as Co-Chairs, and invigorated the campaign support structure by redefining roles for staff and volunteers and celebrating their successes. As well, sought out corporate partnerships in the Great Valley high-tech corridor and foundation grants. After the Campaign, designed and created a committee structure to conduct community outreach, community relations, and ongoing major gift activity.

EXPERIENCE: 1974-1981; 1992 - 2008. Teacher of English, Malvern Preparatory School, Malvern, PA.

Selected Results: Particularly effective at teaching students to write essays rhetorically sound and error free. Increased student interest in thoughtful reading and writing for pleasure by providing books for students to -try on.- Worked closely with parents and guidance counselors to find the right approach, anticipate problems, and solve the ones that surprised us.

EXPERIENCE: 1980-1988. Director of Development, Malvern Preparatory School. Responsible for all facets of the School's advancement program, including capital and annual campaigns, corporate and foundation initiatives, and external relations.

Selected Results: Won CASE Honorable Mention for 1985 Annual Fund at Malvern Preparatory School. Increased Alumni participation from 12% to 37% and giving from $39,000 to $74,000. Method: Broadbased enrollment of effective class agents, clear and manageable job descriptions, and enthusiastic staff support. Moved the more effective class agents into leadership positions in the Association. Created an infrastructure and alumni committees for admissions, donor prospecting, and professional networking.

Launched the School into its first Capital Campaign, $2,500,000, and reached the $2,000,000 mark ahead of schedule and under budget before moving to the Foundation at Paoli.

EXPERIENCE: 1977-1980. Director of Athletics, Malvern Preparatory School.

Selected Results: Hired, managed, and evaluated all coaches for interscholastic teams at all levels. Had full responsibility for facilities management, budget preparation, reporting, and control.

EXPERIENCE: 1974-1977. Chair, Department of English, Malvern Preparatory School.

Selected Results: In 1974, the School was struggling financially. My job as Department Head was to make sure the students got a thorough preparation in English. Hired, mentored, and evaluated four new teachers, designed a new curriculum, and set objective standards for student achievement.
