Analyzed education standards at MECIT; developed and implemented a skills-based English

Foundation and Semester program for Arab-speaking Muslim students preparing for an

internationally acceptable College / University education. The program, officially accepted by

Oman Ministry of Higher Education, re-organized the English curriculum into six-week units:

students progress faster and more meaningfully through foundation school. Many students

moved from 0.2 to 3.2 on TWE holistic grading scale within one Semester. Trained teachers in

twice-weekly workshops: emphasized a skills-based, collaborative approach to education and

understanding the needs of Second Language Speakers. Developed and implemented

Advanced English program for first Semester students; created and coordinated Writing

across the Curriculum syllabus. Responsible for training and providing leadership and

direction: a faculty of 24 teachers and 800 Foundation students; approximately 200 Advanced

English Semester full- and part-time students. The team I put together took the challenge of

putting in place a system foreign to them conceptually and practically; and learned to develop

their own culturally appropriate materials. I was able to motivate them successfully to

implement the program with discipline and consistency. In order to achieve these goals, I

researched and presented several all-faculty workshops:

A Profile of Arab-Omani Students: their history, needs, learning styles, attitude to

education, and to English in particular.

Perception and Reality in Cross-Cultural Learning.

Developed Teacher Guidelines: the educational philosophy and teaching approach of the
