Greetings Fellow Students:
Let me introduce myself to those of you that I have not had the pleasure to meet yet, my
name is Caitlin Stene and I am honored to have been nominated to serve as the Vice
Chair of MSUSA for 2010 to 2011. When thinking about my experiences that I have had
with this organization thus far I can say that I have truly enjoyed them and would be
honored to continue serving this organization as your Vice Chair.
Serving as the Board of Directors for the Winona State University campus this past year
has exposed be to a different aspect of this organization. My time as a Board of Director
has only strengthened my connection and passion for serving this organization. Through
my work I have been exposed to the inner workings of the MSUSA office, showing me
what it would be like to work with the staff and if elected, my fellow officers. We are
entering a time of transition with new staff members and with this elections of new
officers, we need to elect an officer team that has the experience and knowledge about
this organization to ensure that our organization continues to move forward smoothly.
My involvement with MSUSA is wide and diverse. I have been attending conferences
since transferring to Winona State University as a sophomore in the fall of 2007. I am
currently serving as the student member on the Jared P. Stene Leadership Scholarship
board. In the spring of 2009, I was lucky enough to be selected to receive the Timothy J.
Penny Public Service Fellowship scholarships to help me with the expenses of my
summer in Washington, DC interning for Congressman Tim Walz. As a board of director,
I was selected to serve on the Joint Building Committee, which has been working with
our sister organization MSCSA, our charge as a committee is to look into the possibility
of our two organizations to co-locate in a building. Finally, I have had the pleasure to
serve on Winona State s Lobby core for the past two years, which has given me the skills
necessary to effectively lobby for the interests of our organization.
When looking to the future of this organization, I feel that we can only grow stronger.
This past year we have laid the necessary groundwork for our organization to continue
growing with the launch of our strategic plan and the creation of our new campus
committee structure. The campus committee structure has been a great start for increases
our organizations effectiveness of our campus, now that we have had a year of this
structure it is time to look back, reflect on what has worked and what can be improved.
When elected Vice Chair, I can promise all of you that I will commit myself to this
organization 110 percent. I will work to improve the workings of the campus committee
and help our organization continue to grow in the positive direction. Please do not
hesitate to call me with any questions, comments or concerns at 651-***-**** or email at
********@******.***. Again, I am very honored to be nominated to serve MSUSA as
Vice Chair for the 2010-2011 year.
Thank you,
Caitlin Stene
