Chief Engineer

Administer fuel/lube oil quality, jacket water testing/treatment, potable water, lockout/tagout, and bulk stores. Enact proper training and supervision of all engineering personnel. Maintain auxiliary systems, e.g., air compressors, communications, power supply batteries, etc. Upkeep and cleanliness of all engineering spaces. Establish proper engine room watch at all times when the vessel is underway. Keep engineering manuals, publications, schematics etc. current and in good order. Ensure safe and efficient operation of all engineering functions. Manage operation, maintenance (routine/preventive/corrective), and monitoring of all machinery, engineering equipment and vessel systems. Maintain accurate records and machinery status logs on all vital plant equipment and ensure proper spare parts inventory. Enforce safety procedures on deck during transfer of fuel or other combustibles. Ensure testing and troubleshooting of equipment, isolate problems, and coordinate necessary resources to affect repairs.
