Richard H. Steen has more than 30 years experience in the resolution of construction and other

complex commercial disputes through litigation or alternative dispute resolution procedures. He

has participated in the assertion or defense of substantial matters in State and Federal Court and

has served as an arbitrator or mediator in more than 1200 ADR proceedings. He President-elect

of the New Jersey State Bar Association and will be installed as President in May, 2010.

Mr. Steen established this AV rated law firm concentrating on construction, environmental and

complex commercial disputes, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). His practice includes

counseling clients on construction contract formation and resolving construction disputes, and

engagements as a mediator or arbitrator in public and private ADR proceedings. He lectures

extensively on engineering and construction law and managing construction disputes, and

provides training for mediators, arbitrators and advocates in a variety of ADR techniques.

construction claims consulting firm. Experience in power, industrial, transportation,

environmental, infrastructure, institutional and commercial projects. National and international

practice including discovery, litigation support and trial preparation.

law and disputes, ADR and related topics. He is a noted author, educator and lecturer for the

American Bar Association, Practicing Law Institute, American Arbitration Association,

Council of State Governments, Center for Professional Advancement, New Jersey State Bar

Association, New Jersey Judicial College, New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal

Education, New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, and numerous construction industry

organizations.

Mr Steen is a contributing author of Partnering in Design and Construction, (McGraw-Hill, Inc.,

New York, N. Y., 1995), and The Construction Dispute Resolution Formbook, (John Wiley

& Sons, Inc., New York, N. Y., 1997) and author of numerous articles on construction law

and disputes, claims management and alternative dispute resolution. He has been an Editor

of two special issues of New Jersey Lawyer - The Magazine, devoted to alternative dispute

resolution and construction and public contract law, and is the former Editor of the New

Jersey State Bar Association Construction Law Section Newsletter.
