High School Mathematics Teacher and Head Basketball Coach (1990 - Present)
Pelican Rapids High School Pelican Rapids, Minnesota (1996-Present) Taught variety of courses in our
senior high including our math 9, informal geometry, and consumer math. The three classes required an
extensive effort of being a motivator and supervisor as all were for our below average students. The past
fifteen years have been spent managing students in Algebra 1, Pre-Calculus, Probability & Statistics, Math
10 & AP Calculus. The experiences have generated strong leadership skills and the ability to have a great
rapport with people of all ages. It has become essential to become proficient with numerous computer
applications to insure excellent organization and communication skills. The latest technology advance is
podcasting all of my lectures.
Norman County East Junior & Senior High School Gary & Twin Valley, Minnesota (1992-1996). Taught
mathematics courses for seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. Designed an opportunity to accelerate our
math curriculum so it was available for seniors to take Calculus. Taught our Senior Math Pre-Calculus and
also a new course titled Applied Math I with a the CORD material which was based on the idea of
students being constructive in their learning of mathematics with many hands on projects.
Gary High School Gary Minnesota (1990-1992).
Taught five different classes: Seventh & Eighth grade math, Algebra I, Consumer Mathematics (10-12),
and was in charge of the elementary computer program (k-6). Gained valuable experience in dealing
with students with a wide range of abilities since there was no tracking. Also, learned much about
classroom management, discipline, and organizing an entire year.
Related Experience
Head boys basketball coach- Accomplished a Career Record of 363 - 186 in 21 years.
Designed an elementary basketball program in each school, which met 10 to 12 Saturdays during
the season. This is a tremendous way to develop a solid program and guide current players to
understand the awesome role that they have to be positive leaders for these young athletes.
Public relations skills obtained have been extremely useful.

Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) President (2011-12)
MN State Coach of the Year (2009)
Teams were MN State AA Champions in 2009 (33-0) and 3rd place in 2006 (30-3)
Coached teams that were Academic State Champions 4 times
Coached teams that advanced to the state tournament 3 times (2003, 2006, & 2009)
Football Official (MSHSL) for the past 15 years. Officiated one state championship and in a total of
6 state football tournaments.
Director of the Viking Shootout 15 years. Coordinate and schedule the entire tournament for 48
52 boys teams. This tournament is played Friday night and Saturday. The tournament usually
consists of 72 80 games played on 5 courts in our two buildings (PRHS and Viking Elementary)
Co-Director of the Valhalla for 6 years. Schedule the games for 30 teams. Coordinate
concessions and all workers.
Schedule the summer schedule for boys basketball team. This amounts to approximately 30
games and 24 sessions to work on fundamentals.
Junior high football coach for 20 years and a junior high volleyball coach for 2 years. This is a great
opportunity to educate and develop strong relationships with students at a very impressionable
age. It is also an important time to help influence them to make the right decisions.
Section Basketball Coach of the Year (1992, 2003, 2006, and 2009)
Co-Director of Norman County East s Summer Recreation for two years. Responsible for
scheduling all games and workers.
Calculus paper grader for three years while in college. This was a wonderful experience because
of the interaction that was shared with the professor who was also my advisor. Provided many
opportunities to discuss the importance of a strong, solid high school math curriculum.
Member of our Building Management Team where we work together as a team to help solve
issues that arise in our school with input from staff, students, and community members.
Member of the Staff Development team that was responsible for approving staff members
attendance at workshops and keeping track of staff members continuing education credits. We
also attended meetings that informed us of any changes to the staff development laws and
regulations as to how money is to be spent.

Requirements for this degree included a ten-week student teaching experience in which I was responsible
for planning lessons and teaching these lessons to high school students. My degree earned from
Concordia College prepared me to be an excellent writer and communicator. I graduated Summa Cum
Laude in 1990.
M.A. in Education- Hamline University, St. Paul, MN 2000 GPA: 4.00
Requirements for this degree included implementing an Action Research project (Capstone). The title of
my capstone was Character Development Strategies to Impact an Athlete s Perspective of

Sportsmanship . I also created a Professional Portfolio based upon professional teaching standards. I
gained knowledge in becoming a leader of change and the importance of differentiating my instruction
in the classroom.

Skills
Excellent organizational and motivational skills developed through lesson planning, tournament
organizing and running a very successful basketball program.
Excellent communication skills with children and with adults through the many conferences, both
formal and informal, I have held with parents. Also interaction with the media because of
attending state and section basketball tournaments.
Solid writing skills gained through the writing done during my undergraduate and my graduate
degrees as well as written communication with parents through newsletters.
Adaptable to change reflected in my teaching, coaching and officiating careers.
Able and eager to work with others as a result of the successful collaboration meetings
(Professional Learning Communities) held at our school.
Volunteer at several youth and community events held in Pelican Rapids.
