Dear Ms. Shelly Blankly,

I am a motivated and hardworking person who is interested in the available position as Store Co-Manager for your retail staff at Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. I learned of this position through Yahoo!Jobs and further research on your website. Leading, merchandising, and customer relations are areas I have particular interest in working in. I know this is a very customer and employee oriented job. I am confident I have what you need.

Working with customers and other employees is what I enjoy doing. Throughout every interaction – whether internal or external – I will do my best to maintain a strong positive image of the company. In previous jobs, I trained associates in achieving their specific goals and in gaining product knowledge. I resolved issues with customers and used SMART action plans to resolve store issues in a satisfactory and timely manner. I am also skilled in giving clear direction and operating a store effectively. I have experience in running floor-sets and merchandising. I also have experience leading shipment processing and stocking. I am confident my experience has given me the skill set you are looking for.

I would welcome the opportunity to interview with you. I will be in the area the week of March 29th and will be available to speak with you then. Dear Ms. Blankly,

It is my great pleasure to write to you on Glory Thompson’s behalf. I was notified that she was seeking a position at your store location. Over the time that I worked with her, I have been her supervisor and colleague. No matter the situation she has been in, Glory has demonstrated that she is trustworthy and dependable. Her work ethic and actions display characteristics beneficial of ay organization. She is genuine, hardworking, and a successful leader.

As my colleague, Glory and I worked on several Floor Sets together and on the Sales Floor. Glory and I shared the Brand Guide responsibilities. Our store had been without a Visual Co-Manager for quite some time and during that time Glory stepped up to the task. Not only did she continue her position as Sales Lead and Stock Room Lead, but she ran floor sets and helped with the store presentations. Our store kept making and exceeding sales goals while Glory was a Sales Lead. Her friendliness and customer service was an excellent addition to our staff. She was able to solve customer issues with patience and confidence, while continuing to provide a wonderful shopping experience.

During that time without another co-manager, Glory also stepped in to share the responsibilities of training new associates. Having worked in retail for only 6 months before being promoted to Sales Lead, Glory learned quickly and was willing to work hard. She became such a product expert that she easily fit into the training role. She showed patience and caring to the new associates. She also created a fun learning and work environment for the new hires. Her creativity allowed her to come up with new training ideas involving interactive product scavenger hunts. Her eagerness to learn and to achieve goals will allow her to succeed just as well if not better with your company.

As a person, Glory is as genuine as they come. Her heart for people is what made her so excellent with not only the customers, but also with the other associates. With her skills and attitude, I feel very strongly that Glory would be an excellent addition to your team.

Sincerely,

Laura Martin, Store #76

Dear Ms. Blankly,

Thank you so much for the chance to speak with you about the open Co-Manager position. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and learning more about Hobby Lobby’s goals and direction.

I was especially excited to learn about Hobby Lobby’s statement of purpose. The passion for honoring the Lord, creating a character building work environment, and exceptional shopping experience is exactly what I want to be a part of!

I believe that my work experience as Sales Lead and Stock Room Lead at Victoria’s Secret has helped prepare me for this position. I also believe that the academic training I received at Northeastern State University has given the knowledge to succeed in this position and career.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. In the meanwhile, please let me know if I can provide you with more information or answer any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Glory Thompson

Interview Questions:

1. My greatest strength would have to be my positive attitude. I believe in finding the good in situations and in people. It’s amazing the good you can find when you are looking for it.

2. My biggest weakness would have to be that I enjoy doing things myself. I am a perfectionist and I have had to learn to delegate to others. I love working with people, but have had to learn that my team and I can achieve much more if I share the work load with them. A phrase I learned to describe this is Teach-Test-Trust .

3. Perhaps one of my favorite classes was my Business Law class. Not only did I find it interesting to learn about the law and the proper way of conducting business, but my professor had a great way of making it interactive and fun to learn.

4. I have learned through my mistakes that I will survive. When things do not go according to plan then it is ok! I will make it through it, pick myself up, and do better next time!

5. I chose my field and major because I love working with people. In management, I will have many chances to interact with customers and employees alike. I enjoy making someone’s day just a little better by having a good shopping experience.

6. My most rewarding college experience would have to be when I took a speech class. I tend to get very nervous when I am public speaking and that class helped me learn how to prepare and become more confident. Not only that, but ended up winning a speech competition!

7. Yes, I think my grades clearly show that I am a hard worker and try my best no matter the class or subject.

8. I work well under pressure. I would say that I rise to the challenge when needed. When working at Victoria’s Secret, when we would have peak shopping hours it would get pretty crazy! When that would happen I would go to all of the associates making sure that they were doing their best and taking care of the customers in their zone. The intensity made it even more enjoyable after it died down, because we could clearly see how hard we had all worked.

9. I decided to seek a position with this company, because it would give me an opportunity to work with people that possibly had similar values and interests. I enjoy arts and crafts! I would love working with the merchandise at Hobby Lobby. Enjoying who and what you work with is essential to making any career work.

10. One major problem I have encountered is having an employee steal from our store. Victoria’s Secret has many safeguards in place to prevent Shrink from occurring, but it is not fail proof. When I discovered what this associate was doing I immediately reported it to our Shrink hotline and called m Store manager. I told her what was going on and did my part to stop it from happening.
