General information
How'd I get boating into my blood? Dad was a
marine engineer for Morse Controls and Chris Craft; we boated on Lake
Erie. My first job was at Morse Controls.
Off to Colorado,
where
I got a
Master s in Mathematics and taught Calculus. I moved up to the
mountains where I remodeled my dome home in my spare time and enjoyed
living with critters large and small.
In 2001, I retired
early from my career as a NOAA senior software engineer, having
specialized in
computer graphics,
GIS, and data management. I relocated to Washington State in 2005.
In 2006, I took the Women s Sailing Intensive
week-long
course at Port Townsend s Maritime Center.
I looked for the right "first boat" and found S/V Pinga in
October of
that year. She's a 1974 Ranger 29 sloop with her original Atomic-4
gasoline engine. Homeport: Bellingham, WA.

my Senior Navigation certification.

Seminars: Women s
Boat Conference in Seattle and Olympia, and the Seattle
Boat
Show.

Sail Squadron. I have my Canadian Operator s Card.
DIY maintenance and project work on my boat -- I love "boat projects".

Boating Experience
My sailing area is the San Juan Islands and North
Puget Sound. I've taken Pinga on 1 day
to 3-week excursions around the San Juan and Gulf
Islands, and from Tacoma to Princess Louisa. So next I guess I'll have
to go west to the ocean.

I am a savvy traveler and have appeared on all 7 continents. Didn't get
sick crossing the Drake Passage!
I
prepare some yummy food in a small space. I don't clean fish,
but I make a nice vegetarian paella. Strictly N/D, N/S, and I always
wear a PFD.
I do just
about anything on a computer, such as use voyage planning
software and discover good on-line resources. I've planned
routes using SeaClear or Cap'n software, and can read a Pilot Chart,
weather report, and more. I can use a sextant, tie a turk's head, and
sew
canvas.
I'm organized, compact, very tidy, and I love learning new things.
